Express Dominate in Decisive Semi-final Victory Over Waterford
A gritty, determined, hard-working Shooters Photography Midget LL team, playing with a full line-up for the first time in several weeks, thrilled the home-town crowd with perhaps its best two-way game of the season on March 12th at Ingersoll Memorial Arena, thumping the visiting Waterford Wildcats 7-3.

From the opening face-off, the talented group of Ingersoll forwards used their speed and skill to control the flow of the game. The Express blue-liners defended well in their own zone and stepped up to contribute offensively as well. Dawson Sharpe was rock-solid between the pipes.

Sniper Brendan Aarts opened the scoring for Ingersoll, taking a pass from Cohen Belore and unleashing a wicked slapshot that beat the Waterford goalie high glove side. Alex Schuett followed up with an unassisted highlight-reel goal, flying the length of the ice, sliding the puck between the legs of Waterford defenders not once, but two times before pulling the goaltender out of position and finding the back of the net. With less than four minutes remaining in the opening period, Aarts made it 3-0 Ingersoll, overpowering the Waterford netminder with another bullet to the top corner. Daltrey and Schuett earned assists on the play. Later in the period Ingersoll winger Liam Knox and Waterford’s Liam Cody collided heavily in the neutral zone, both players skated away unscathed and no penalty was called on the play.

Early in the second period, Dawson Sharpe came up big as the Wildcats fought to claw their way back into the contest with Brendan Aarts serving a double minor for head contact. The two Liams (both wearing number 9 by coincidence), tangled once again, this time engaging in a spirited wrestling match that saw both players escorted to the penalty box. Later in the period, with Ingersoll playing two men short, Alex Schuett stripped the Waterford defenceman of the puck and bolted the length of the ice on a clear break away before scoring his second unassisted goal of the game. The Wildcats, still playing 5 on 3, managed to sneak one in behind Dawson Sharpe, but Schuett struck for his third goal, completing the hat trick with only 19 seconds to play in the middle frame. Lucas White was credited with an assist on the play.

Two minutes into the final period, Tyler Bergman put the nail in the coffin for the Wildcats, sliding a soft shot along the ice that somehow fooled the Wildcats netminder, putting the Express up by five. Daniel Martineau assisted on Ingersoll’s sixth goal. The visitors made things interesting, scoring twice to narrow the gap and make it a 6-3 game. The Wildcats momentum fizzled however, due to some undisciplined penalties. In a desperate attempt to tie things up and force overtime, Waterford pulled their goaltender for an extra attacker in the dying minutes, but Braden Wright lifted the puck down the ice and into the empty net, making the final score Ingersoll 7, Waterford 3.
