Atom Express LL #2 vs. Port Dover
The Vision Property Mgmt team showed up to play Sunday morning and walked away with the first victory of the year!  Great team work and stellar goaltending lead the players to a 3-0 win in front of the home town crowd.  The shots and scoring chances were neck and neck but the bounces went our way and the cross bar was on our side!

The packed dropped at 11:05 and both teams fought hard to control the puck.  You could tell it was going to be a scrappy game as players gave up little space and defended their zones with tenacity.  The action was mostly between the blue lines as neither team had much luck carrying the puck into the offensive end of the ice.  The players resorted to the dump and chase method and that soon proved to be the way get to the net.  The scoring started at the 6:59 mark when #13 Cole Brownscombe appeared to bang in the puck after a quick move at the side of the net.  There was a pile of Ingersoll players in front the net and all hands flew into the air in celebration!  That made the score 1-0 with the hometown crowd on their feet.  Shortly after the goal Ingersoll found themselves on the penalty kill when there was a 2 minute tripping call made at 6:18.  The Ingersoll players did an excellent job clearing the puck and even found a few scoring chances.  The Port Dover goalie had the puck slide under the pads but was saved by the goal post on a shot from the right hand side by #5 Danny Kaiser.  So close Danny!  The penalty expired and both teams went back to full strength.  The play went end to end during final minutes of the period but the score remained 1-0.
The second period was real test for Ingersoll's goalie #1 Damien Vandamme who faced a dozen strong shots and a half dozen break aways.  Damien was solid, taking shots off every part of the body.  The sound of the crossbar was music to his ears as a high shot beat him on the blocker side and later on a shot off the shoulder.  Port Dover players tried every angle but could not find the back of the net.  The battles for the puck started to get a little too rough for the refs and a 2 minute body checking penalty was called on Port Dover with 2:40 left in the period.  Ingersoll did a fine job holding the offensive zone and a great effort by #10 Ella Plank along the boards lead to a nice pass in front of the net.  The shot was saved but that was some excellent team work.  The penalty expired but Ingersoll stayed on the offence.  #6 Nicolas Carney passed the puck up to #2 Nathan Kapitor at the blue line.  Nathan spotted #4 Kadin Vandamme streaking along the left side of the ice and slid the puck across the ice with a nice tape to tape pass.  Kadin ripped behind the net and fired the puck over the line on the wrap around!  That made the score 2-0 with only 11 seconds left in the period.  Way too go team!  The time expired with score of 2-0 on the board.
The period was under way with the Express train chugging along like a well oiled machine.  The puck was getting cleared up the boards and the defence played their positions well.  The forwards did their best to crash the net and fight for the rebounds.  Ingersoll found themselves down a player after a bench minor was called and had 2 minutes to kill.  The team did a great job in their own end and sent the puck the length ice.  #13 Cole Brownscombe chased hard after the puck and made a slick move to steal the puck for the unsuspecting defence man.  Cole wasted no time and fired a rocket into the far side of the net to score his second of the game!  That short handed goal pushed the score up to 3-0 with 5:58 remaining on the clock.  The Express train rolled along and again found themselves on the power play for 2 minutes after Port Dover was called for another body checking penalty.  Port Dover did a good job managing the puck and clearing the zone holding the score at 3-0.  The game clock ticked away the minutes and the final score showed 3-0 giving Damien his first shut out of the year.  It was a team effort and a joy to watch from the stands.  Great job team!
