The Verspeeten Cartage
Peewee Local League team opened their Intertown playoffs with a 2-2 tie against
the Simcoe Warriors Friday night. The
boys were shorthanded as Jacob MacArthur caught some rays in Cuba and Aaron
Lahey was out with the flu, but super-sub Cole Brownscombe filled in with a
strong performance.
The first period saw Ingersoll get off to a great start, pressuring the Warriors from the opening face-off. Despite dominating the first, the Verspeeten team couldn’t get one past the Warriors goalie. Simcoe couldn’t get one past a solid Express netminder, Hayden White and his three defensemen, Cameron White, Cameron Holland, and Ethan Barrett either.
Simcoe broke the ice midway through the second but before the period ended the Express capitalized on the power play. Emmitt Robinson worked a nice give and go with Keagan Clifford and deposited the puck high over the blocker of the Warriors goalie. Simcoe forged ahead again in the third before taking another penalty. Again the Verspeeten power play clicked as Parker Huitema banged in a rebound off a White shot from the blue line. Robinson also assisted on the goal. Ingersoll continued to press as the forwards hemmed Simcoe in their end with strong forechecking by Adam Klotz and Alex Georgiou, but could not get the game winner. The Verspeeten Express continue their Intertown playoffs this week as they host the Langton Leafs.
