Verspeeten Peewees Trucking Through Playoffs
The Verspeeten Cartage Peewee Express continued their Intertown playoffs with 3 games over the past 2 weeks, collecting 4 of a possible 6 points with games against Waterford #1, and two against Tillsonburg #1.

Hosting the Waterford Wildcats to close out the month of January, the boys fought back and scored 2 late goals to earn a 2-2 tie in a chippy, penalty-filled game.  After a scoreless first period, the Wildcats opened the scoring at the midway point of the second and then increased their lead just before the second period came to a close.  Ingersoll continued to fight and refused to give up as the game wound down.  With goalie Hayden White on the bench in favour of an extra attacker, Parker Huitema scored assisted by Cole Brownscombe to cut the lead to one.  Again, the Express pulled their goaltender to try to tie the game and with 5.9 seconds remaining, Emmitt Robinson knocked in a rebound of a Cameron White shot.  The Express earned a point for their effort in this hard fought battle.

To open February, the Verspeeten boys welcomed Highway 19 rival Tillsonburg #1.  Scoreless through the first period, Cameron White opened the scoring early in the second on an unassisted dash from end to end.  Keagan Clifford then replied assisted by White and Robinson before Robinson got one of his own off the ensuing faceoff.  After 2 periods the Verspeeten boys were in command and looking to extend their lead.  Early in the third, Jacob MacArthur scored from the blue line assisted by Clifford and Huitema.  The boys put up a strong effort in front of Hayden White in the net to preserve the shutout and a 4-0 victory.

The Express then headed down Highway 19 for the rematch with the Tornadoes.  The Express got off to an early lead, as Huitema scored on the first shift, assisted by Robinson.  Tillsonburg replied before the end of the period, tying the game at one, through one period.  Ingersoll again took the lead as Robinson banged one in from a scramble in front of the net early in the second.  The score remained 2-1 for Ingersoll until Tillsonburg evened the game again midway through the third.  Both teams traded opportunities but neither could break the deadlock.  The 2-2 extended the Express’ unbeaten streak to 4 games.  Currently the Verspeeten Peewees are 3-1-3 in the playoffs as they head into a busy week with 3 road games in Langton, Waterford, and again in Tillsonburg.
