Verspeeten’s Final Of Regular Season
Verspeeten
Cartage was welcomed by the Waterford Wildcats on February 28th, as the
Ingersoll Peewee team played their last game of the regular season on
the road.
The teams were evenly matched and the game could well have gone either way. Waterford opened the scoring, as they somehow foiled the magic of Verspeeten goal tender Brodi Carbaugh and found a way to put the puck past the goal line. Waterford had other chances to score after this, however the defensive players around Carbaugh would have none of it, and the Wildcats were held to one.
Meanwhile, the Verspeeten Cartage peewees continued to apply pressure and managed to tie up the game as Jacob Branderhorst and Nolan Costa assisted Mark Tucker, who was able to fire the puck into the back of the Waterford net in the second period.
Later in that same period, defensive player Aiden Berto went for a skate. Berto travelled from behind his own net to the other end of the ice and sent a post ringer past the Waterford goalie. The puck hit the left post, slid up to the cross bar, travelling the length of it, down the right post and into the net. The ringing puck was music to this writer’s ears, as the winning goal by Berto was held for the remainder of the game to give Ingersoll the win at a score of 2 to 1.
The next game for Verspeeten Cartage will see the team travel to Langton for their first playoff game.
Go Verspeeten!
