Game #14 - Tough loss at home vs Ayr
The boys were on the ice again at home tonight hosting the Ayr Flames, with a large crowd on hand hoping to see an exciting matchup. Starting tonight for the Express was Tanner Belore, who put forth another solid performance tonight.

The boys started out very sluggish, and it was not long before we found ourselves short handed as Ethan Kish was escorted to the box for a head contact call, only 35 seconds into the game. The boys did a good job keeping the Flames at bay, and started to find their legs halfway through the opening frame. The period would end scoreless with both teams registering 6 shots each.

The second frame was a much better period for the Louie's pizza squad, as they started moving the puck with a little more confidence and created a couple of nice 2 on 1 opportunities, however the Flames goalie played a solid game himself and kept the puck out of the net. Ayr would open the scoring as a hard forecheck by the Flames paid dividends as they came out from behind the net and found a hole that Belore could not close in time. The Express continued to push and a beautiful tic tac toe passing play started by Westin Matsumoto's determination to win a puck battle, saw Kolten Winkworth cruising in from the point, who put the puck on Colton Macpherson's stick, who fed it to Josh Robles who dumped it into the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1.

We started out strong in the third, but could not get a shot on goal as Ayr started to regain some of the momentum they had earlier in the contest. A broken play in the defensive zone, saw the Ayr forward get the puck all alone in front of Belore, who was able to make two great saves, but unable to corral the rebound and the third shot by the uncontested Flames forward got by to give them the lead, one that they would not relinquish. Ayr would take a late major penalty for cross checking, giving us a man advantage, but we would also receive a minor penalty for roughing, negating the power play. Belore would be pulled for the extra attacker, but we could not get one by the Ayr netminder and the game ended in a 2-1 loss. We will have to wait until next Tuesday for our next match up when we host the Thunder from Caledonia.
