On
Saturday December 15th, with only ten skaters in the lineup, the Carmeuse Lime
Midget Local League team had its hands full with a talented, hard-working team
from Delhi.
The Rockets were flying from the moment the puck was dropped. They kept Ingersoll hemmed into their own zone for most of the opening frame, peppering Dawson Sharpe with shots, and coasting to a 3-0 lead before the period ended.
The Express showed signs of life in the second, Paul Shearer had the best scoring chance of the period for Ingersoll when one of the Rockets misplayed the puck and handed it to him alone in the slot. Shearer seemed almost surprised to find the puck on his stick and the feisty Ingersoll forward fired it wide of the goal. Later in the period Avery Shrigley created a good scoring opportunity when he won a battle along the boards in the corner behind the Delhi goal, and muscled his way to the front of the net only to be denied by the Rockets goaltender.
In the third period, Delhi’s offensive onslaught continued. The Express had trouble clearing the zone and the Rockets powered their way to a 7-0 lead. Ingersoll’s best chance of the period came when Daniel Martineau lobbed the puck toward the net and it was deflected by Nolan Costa up and over the goaltender’s shoulder. The puck came to rest on top of the Delhi net and the play was whistled dead. The Rockets added two more before the final whistle.
