The Carmeuse Lime Midget local league team needed a win to earn a spot in the B division semi-final. The visiting Port Dover Pirates, who came into Sunday’s final game of the season one point ahead of Ingersoll in the standings, needed at least a tie to advance. From the initial puck drop it was clear that both teams were hungry, ready to battle for the final playoff spot, prepared to “leave it all on the ice” as they say.

Fans at the Ingersoll Memorial Arena were treated to an exciting, fast paced contest. Both teams came out with energy, grit and determination, generating several excellent scoring chances in the opening frame. Solid goaltending kept the game scoreless until 4:08 of the first, when the pesky Pirates managed to sneak one in behind Ingersoll’s Dawson Sharpe.

The see-saw battle continued through a scoreless second period. Avery Shrigley kicked it into high gear, twice carrying the puck end to end through a maze of Port Dover players only to be denied by the Pirates goaltender. Ingersoll defenseman Lucas White had the puck caught up in his equipment when he dove to the ice to block a shot.

In the third period Kieghan Osmond managed to sneak in behind the Port Dover defense, but was poke checked at the last second by the Pirates goaltender. With five minutes left to play Daniel Martineau carried the puck along the boards into the Port Dover zone, put on the brakes and slipped a nice pass out to Dylan Goyette who found the back of the net to tie the game 1-1. The teams continued to battle as the final minutes wound down, Ingersoll pulled goaltender Dawson Sharpe with 30 seconds remaining, but the game ended in a 1-1 draw, ending Ingersoll’s season.
