11-08-2018 Solid Third Period Not Enough for Express
The Carmeuse Lime Midget LL team tried to convert a strong third period against the Tillsonburg Tornadoes on Thursday night but the effort came up short as the visitors were unable to overcome an early deficit and fell 5-3 on the road.

The first part of the game saw the Express commit a number of turnovers in the defensive and neutral zones and Tillsonburg managed to convert on some of those chances. The home side got on the board 2:10 into the first period when the Express failed to clear their zone twice leading to a Tornadoes forward to grab the puck and circle the zone before tucking a wrap-around past goalie Dawson Sharpe.

Tillsonburg sustained the early pressure but were unable to beat Sharpe, and eventually the Express would generate some offense. The best opportunity of the first period came when Dylan Goyette hit Avery Shrigley with a nice pass down the left wing. Shrigley cut into the Tillsonburg zone and snapped a wrist shot that beat the Tornado goalie but rang off the crossbar. The Express would take a penalty late in the period and off a defensive zone faceoff Sharpe came up with his biggest save of the period when he stopped a one-timer from the point.

The Express would continue to struggle with turnovers in the second period that led to two more Tillsonburg goals in a 2:50 span. The second goal of the game for Tillsonburg was a wrist shot from the point that found the back of the Express net and the third goal again came from another Express turnover in their own end. Late in the period the Express seem to find their skating legs and some confidence as they were able to generate three excellent scoring opportunities. The best of the three came from Matt Overreem as he entered the Tillsonburg zone and let a hard wrist shot go from the high slot that found the crossbar behind the Tornado goalie. Heading into the third the Express trailed 3-0.

After the brief intermission the Express came out strong and with 1: 22 gone in the third the Express would get on the board when Colin VanDyk's point shot found the back of the net through a maze of players. Overreem and Lucas Heather would get the assists on Ingersoll's opening goal. Tillsonburg would get that back just 0:09 later when Kieghan Osmond lost an edge and the Tillsonburg forward skated around him and beat Sharpe. Ingersoll would cut into the lead again just 0:13 later on a nice effort from Shrigley. Goyette and Shrigley would go to work again on a nice set up but just could not finish it off.

The Express would cut the lead to 4-3 when Brydon Johnson would snap a rebound into the net. The goal was set up by some nice work between Daniel Martineau and Caleb Clifford at the point. Martineau let a wrist shot go that was stopped but the rebound ended up on Johnson's stick and into the net. Ingersoll kept up the pressure in the final part of the game but Tillsonburg would add the final goal of the game on a nice end to end rush.
