Tremblett’s Grocery Boys Bag Win
The Tremblett’s Your Independent Grocer Peewee AE Express continued their strong play over the past week in their OMHA Playdowns against Caledonia and in hosting the Delhi Rockets during the Carmeuse Lime Invitational.

The Tremblett’s squad earned their first win of the season, beating the Delhi Rockets this past weekend.  Delhi opened the scoring midway through the first on a high backhand shot that eluded goaltender Dawson Sharpe.  Despite carrying the play the boys found themselves behind.  Zach Lewis tapped home a rebound from an Emmitt Robinson shot to even the game late in the first period.

The Express continued their strong play through the second period, scoring twice.  Robinson scored on a high shot assisted by Colin VanDyk.  Less than a minute later, Keagan Clifford tipped in a Cameron White point shot.  Dylan Daltrey and Lucas Turner’s hard work and determination on the forecheck created the opportunity and led to the goal.

The third period opened with Ethan Martire scoring on the first shift as he fired a backhand over the goaltender’s shoulder. Parker Huitema and VanDyk assisted on the goal. Delhi replied at the midway point to close the gap to two once again, but less than a minute later the Express regained their 3 goal lead as Huitema notched his first of the year firing home a centring pass from Martire.  Lewis also assisted on the play.  The grocery boys bagged one more as Lucas White also tallied his first of the season, tapping in the rebound off a Robinson shot.  VanDyk picked up his third assist of the game on the goal.  Delhi scored late to make the final 6-3 in favour of the home team.  Unable to make the score sheet but contributing through continued hard work in the offensive zone and determined back-checking were Landon Pare and Lucas Turner.  The Tremblett’s team would like to thank Carmeuse Lime for their continued sponsorship of this weekend and youth sports in Ingersoll.

Unfortunately, the Tremblett’s Express were eliminated in OMHA Playdowns this week.  Down 1-0 in the series against first place Caledonia, the Tremblett’s boys hosted the Thunder in Game 2.  The boys played one of their best games of the year but fell 2-1 in a closely contested match.  There was no scoring through the first half of the game until Caledonia broke the ice late in the second period.  Caledonia then tallied early in the third to go up 2-0.  The Express continued to press and eventually cut the lead in half with 38 seconds to play and goaltender Sharpe on the bench in favour of an extra attacker.  Robinson let a hard wrist shot go from just inside the blueline that the Caledonia goaltender couldn’t handle.  Caleb Clifford assisted on the marker.  The Express continued to pressure Caledonia but could not get the equalizer, falling 2-1.

Game 3 back in Caledonia was another hard fought game.  The Tremblett’s team jumped out to an early lead two minutes into the game.  VanDyk’s hard work at the blue line to keep the puck in the offensive zone led to a Martire blast which found the back of the net.  Caledonia tied the game up 3 minutes later.  That was all the scoring until Caledonia caught fire in the third period.

The Thunder scored at the 9 minute mark and again at the 5 minute mark to surge ahead 3-1.  The Tremblett’s boys didn’t give up and continued to press the opposition.  With Sharpe on the bench in favour of an extra attacker Caledonia sprung free and deposited one in the empty net sinking the Express.  With their spirits broken the boys gave up 2 more to make the final 6-1 Caledonia.  The final score certainly did not reflect how closely contested the game and series was played.  The Tremblett’s YIG Peewee AE Express will open their Southern Counties Playoffs in the next week.
