Tremblett’s Short on Goals, Long on Effort

Express were busy this past week with two league games and three tournament
games. Unfortunately the boys struggled
to score, losing all five games, but on a positive note, there was never a lack
of effort.
The week opened with a tough 10-0 loss to neighbouring Embro, the second place team in the Southern Counties league. After falling behind in the first, the boys tried to mount a comeback but could not get one past the Embro goaltender. A strong Embro squad kept Express goaltender Dawson Sharpe busy, peppering him with shots over the entire game.
The grocery boys traveled to Simcoe to take on the Warriors for the first time this season. The Warrriors managed to score two goals near the end of the first to surge into the lead. Emmitt Robinson tipped in a hard shot from the blue line by Colin VanDyk to cut the lead in half early in the second. Simcoe roared back and regained its 2 goal lead less than a minute later. The Warriors would add another midway through the third to complete the scoring, a 4-1 win for Simcoe.
The Tremblett’s team would face the host St. Marys Rock in their first tournament of the season. St. Marys got off to a strong start scoring early and often and taking a 4-0 lead into the second. The Rock would continue to pour it on and eventually winning 8-0. In their second game of the tournament, the Express faced the Mitchell meteors. Mitchell came out strong and scored 3 times in the opening two and a half minutes. Despite a strong effort, the boys could not sneak one past the Meteors goalie. Mitchell eventually went on to win 7-0.
After the preliminary games, Ingersoll was slated to face St. Marys again in the quarterfinals. The Express opened the game as the stronger team limiting St. Marys to one shot on goal over the first period. However, the Tremblett’s squad couldn’t muster any goals of their own. St. Marys eventually opened the scoring midway through the second period and tallied again prior to the end of the period to make the score 2-0 heading to the third. Again the boys fought hard but surrendered one more as St. Marys would eventually win 3-0. While the Express struggled to score goals against the stiff competition, they did continue to work hard and leave with their heads held high.
