Express traveled down highway 19 to take on rival Tillsonburg last week. Despite a strong effort the grocery boys
failed to bag their first win of the season.
The game opened up with the teams trading scoring chances before Tillsonburg broke through scoring at the midway point of the first period. Ingersoll replied shortly thereafter as Caleb Clifford pick up the puck after some strong forechecking by Dylan Daltrey and deposited the puck behind Tillsonburg’s goaltender tying the game. Less than a minute later the home team replied, retaking the lead 2-1.
The Express evened the game in the second on Clifford’s second of the night, taking a pass from Zach Lewis. Parker Huitema also earned an assist on the play after making a nice clearing pass to Lewis. The game didn’t remain tied for long as Tillsonburg replied less than a minute later. Keagan Clifford then replied for Ingersoll 17 seconds later to again tie the score. The furious pace continued as Tillsonburg scored 2 more goals before the end of the period to leave the score 5-3 in favour of the Tornadoes after two periods.
The third period was just as exciting, but unlike the second where 5 goals were scored in 5 minutes, neither team managed to light the lamp. Tillsonburg took the first meeting of the season between the two teams 5-3. The grocery boys put up a strong effort and will look get on the winning track against Caledonia this week.
