Rising To The Challenge
Thamesford Pizza Bantam players have had a challenging start to the 2013/2014 season.
Their first game of the new season was at home, when they welcomed Tillsonburg to the Ingersoll Express ice pad.
The team came out against Tillsonburg a little rough – but their game improved greatly through the second and third periods. Still, the Tillsonburg Bantam team happened to get the puck going their way a few more times than Thamesford Pizza, and the result was a score of three to zero for Tillsonburg.
Thanksgiving followed shortly thereafter, and the game that was to be played on Sunday, October 13th was postponed, as not enough players from the opposing team were able to make it. Many of the Thamesford pizza players, therefore, took advantage of this free time and attended a practice. Puck drills, skating drills, and finally a shinny were enjoyed as a Thanksgiving treat, and in preparation for the next game against Delhi, on October 17th.
Traveling to the Tobacco capital, Thamesford pizza was welcomed on Delhi's home ice. The game began with great power and momentum on both ends of the rink. The rock'em sock'em style hockey these teams played would have made Don Cherry proud! This writer was heard to exclaim, “Now THIS is a hockey game!”
Rock'em sock'em aside, however, Delhi proved to be too powerful for Thamesford Pizza, and repeatedly broke through Ingersoll's defensive line, finding the back of the net six times. In the end, Thamesford Pizza were given a great learning opportunity, as the final score of put Delhi on top with six, while Ingersoll's Thamesford Pizza left the arena with no goals.
The next game to be played by Thamesford Pizza will be held in Ingersoll, on October 20th at 8pm, when they welcome Burford's Bantam team to the Ingersoll arena. The fans of Thamesford Pizza have great expectations for their team and will be out in full strength to once again cheer them on.
