The Carmeuse Lime Midget A/E Team had their hands full going into game 1 of the playoffs against Caledonia, but they proved early in the game that they wanted to win. All 9 goals of the game were scored in the 2nd period….
The fans were pleasantly entertained Thursday night by the
Carmeuse Lime Midget AE team, as they hosted the opening playoff game against 1st
place Caledonia Thunder. Early on, there was some great passing tape to tape and good
efforts to clear it out of our end. All players were muscling their
opponents off the puck. Lots of physical play and first period ended scoreless.
Second period began with some 4 on 4 action, and when you shoot on the net good
things may happen. Luke Zegers (Jeff Couse, Ryan Allard) put the Express on the
scoreboard 3 minutes in. The Thunder hustled and passed their way down the ice
twice within the next 3 minutes. This see saw battle continued throughout the 2nd
as Ingersoll tied it up less than a minute later with a goal by Tristan Koster
(Garrett Maier, Luke Zegers). Less than 60 seconds later, Caledonia roared by
the Express with 2 more goals. Ingersoll rallied back with a goal by Garrett
Maier (Nick Rizzo, Jordan Pacheco). The 4th and final goal for the
Express seen Rizzo receive a beauty backhand pass from Maier who got it from
defenseman Mason Schneider, and we’re all tied up! Caledonia was tireless and
scored 15 seconds later. Hard effort by both teams to close out the 2nd
and Caledonia was ahead by 1. The 3rd
period seen plenty of opportunities for both teams, but the puck eluded both
nets. Caledonia wins the first game of
the series 5 / 4. Next game has
Ingersoll travelling to Caledonia Jan 30 and our next home game is Jan 31st
at 9:15 p.m.
Positives:
Cool heads prevailed and only 2 penalties were served
by Ingersoll. There was still gas left in the tank for the 3rd
period. Extremely close game showing the crowd that a win is very possible
against Caledonia. While not all players were on the score sheet, every player
put forth effort during the game. Some players have been asked to play positions
out of their comfort zone, and they’ve stepped up admirably.
