Verspeeten Cartage At Woolwich Wildcat Weekend
The Woolwich Wildcat Weekend was the place to find the Verspeeten Cartage Peewees November 9th and 10th, at the Woolwich Memorial Centre in Elmira.

Verspeeten Cartage played some great hockey on Friday, November 9th as well as Saturday the 10th.

The first day of the tournament, the team met up with Woolwich who was on home ice. The game featured great hockey action, penalties, a short-handed goal, and a player being removed from the game due to an excellent body check which went wrong at the very last second. This same player was suspended from the first game on Saturday, however he attended the game to cheer on his team. He was met by his team raising his jersey on the back of the bench in honour of their fellow team mate.

The final score of Friday’s game against Woolwich was a tie of 3 - 3. Scoring for Verspeeten Cartage was Jacob Branderhorst who managed a short-handed goal as well as the team’s final goal of the game. Meanwhile, Kristopher Procter, from a defensive position, was able to slip the puck between the goalie’s skates, with assistance from Ethan Vlemmix.

Saturday the team faced off against Beverly. Verspeeten - and probably every other team - was over-powered by the Beverly juggernaut. The resilient Verspeeten Cartage players displayed their strong character and conducted themselves with great honour throughout this game. This great team was a shining example of sportsmanship to Beverly. (As well as to everyone else who saw them play.) Verspeeten was able to beat the Beverly goalie with a single goal scored by Hailey Wright, assisted by Ethan Vlemmix and Nolan Costa.

Verspeeten’s final match-up was against Delhi. Both teams played hard, and scored some goals. Delhi pulled ahead, however, and Verspeeten just wasn’t able to find the goals they needed to catch up. The game ended with Ingersoll having scored one goal which was poked into the net by Jacob Branderhorst.

This writer is certain everyone who attended this tournament - both players and fans - enjoyed themselves greatly. The Woolwich Wildcats put on an exciting tournament, and congratulations goes out to all the teams who participated.
