March 1, 2010

On Monday night Anderson Appliance closed their regular season with a home game against Tillsonburg. The Anderson Appliance team brought some pride to their black jerseys and showed their number one rival that they are ready for the play-offs. The action started early in the first with Mark Tucker and Nathan Peacock working hard in the offensive end, and kicking a pass out to Paul Shearer, who buried a beauty backhander to earn his team the early lead. Shearer put home his first goal of the season, and the stands went wild.  Adam Csucs put in a beauty goal after an amazing feed from Joseph Schonberger, and  Leland Loranger, to put the score to 2 -0.  Donovan Purcell played a solid game deep on defence, and kept feeding the puck up to his line mates to keep the chances coming. Mark Tucker came close and put a zinger off the post,  and Anderson Appliance kept putting the pressure on. Tillsonburg finally put a point up on the board, as the first period ended 2-1.

In the second period, Annilese Racicot was paired up against the possibly largest player in the league, and out powered him on every play, to keep her team in control. Justin Thorne was excellent on wing and helped keep the second period damage to a minimum, with some very smart mid ice plays. Brodi Carbaugh was excellent in net and made an amazing glove save midway through the period. David Timleck and Nolan Costa were held off the score sheet tonight, but deserved some credit, as the Tillsonburg players were all over them during the game. The Tillsonburg team showed up in the second period and put up a goal to even the score at 2.

In the third, Tillsonburg snuck in a quick goal, and took their first lead of the game. Anderson Appliance powerhouse defenceman Camden McDougall grabbed the puck and created his own opportunity to take off down the ice and smash home the equalizer while two way player Ben Fullerton covered him on the back end. The back and forth continued for 5 minutes, with slashes and take downs going both ways, before the top ranked Tillsonburg put in 2 more to take a commanding 2 goal lead. The refs finally took notice of some questionable tactics, and when the refs arm went up, the Anderson Appliance goalie took off to his bench, for some 6 on 5 pressure. Anderson Appliance came close, but didn't score before the Tillsonburg player was sent to the box. With 1:30 remaining on the clock, Anderson Appliance went on the power play and refused to be beaten by their arch rival Tillsonburg. Mark Tucker grabbed the puck and made a great pass to Annilese Racicot, who brought hope back to her team with a nifty goal. With 50 seconds left, Anderson Appliance kept their goalie cooling his heels on the bench, and sent out a 6 man power line to even the score. It took the Anderson Appliance team 33 seconds to even the score and finally put a scare into the over confident, and top ranked Tillsonburg. Mark Tucker, put up his third assists of the night, when he gave a lead pass to Adam Csucs, who kicked it over to Camden McDougall, who took control of the play, and scored a thrilling goal to even the score with 17 seconds remaining.
