Delhi 3 Anderson Appliance 3
Monday February 1, 2010

Monday night Anderson Appliance played host to Delhi, with the hometowners being heavily favored in this match up. Anderson Appliance has won their last three straight, and last 4 of 5, in their climb to the top four of the standings. The seemingly unbeatable Anderson Appliance took the ice, and true to recent form, lit up the scoreboard 3 times in the first to build a quick 3 -1 lead. The game reminded us fans, why all the 8 year olds are at the arena every few nights pouring their hearts into their game. Although Anderson Appliance sagged at times and eventually lost the lead, the team dogpile at the final buzzer, and all the smiles in the dressing room was an inspiring sight and reminder of the fun these great kids have on the ice. The Anderson Appliance team played a fair and hardworking game, and should be proud of how they represent their hometown.

The first period action started with Nolan Costa banging home an unassisted goal to take an early lead. About thirty seconds later Ben Fullerton and Donovan Purcell's hard work and passing led to another sweet goal by Nolan Costa. Net minder Leland Loranger had his work cut out for him on this night and despite putting on a goaltending clinic in the first period, eventually let a tough shot get by to bring the score to 2 -1. The team workhorse, Nolan Costa responded on his next shift and on a great feed by Mark Tucker, to put another one between the pipes to rack up a single period hat-trick. A female fan in the Ingersoll section was seen trying to toss her hat onto the ice, but was ultimately foiled by the always present safety netting.

In the second period Anderson Appliance was held off the score sheet and Delhi scored a unsaveble goal. The Anderson Appliance defence crew took time to go back and tap their goalies leg pads, letting him know that his great work in net was appreciated.

The third period started with an Anderson Appliance leading 3 -2. In a game that was starting to build up a lot of pressure, and a lot of back of forth cheering in the stands, the kids in black showed what they were there for and put everything they had into a heated contest. Anderson Appliance forward Paul Shearer could be heard encouraging his team mates on the ice, and led by example by diving into every nook and cranny of the corners to dig up the puck for his team. David Timleck was easily the hardest worker of the game, and seemed to never run out of energy, to hold up his team and their lead. Anderson Appliance ran into  a lot of offside trouble, and was lucky to have game saver Leland Loranger only let in one goal in the third.

In a tribute to the heart and soul of minor sports, when the final buzzer sounded, the Anderson Appliance roster charged to their net and celebrated not a win, but a fun filled exciting game. On this day both teams and the one hundred or so fans, left the arena with a great feeling about the sport of hockey and how it helps turn our children into true sportsman and kids with a reason to be proud of themselves.
