Express Come Close in Parry Sound...
The Searles Novice Rep team capture second at the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame Classic tournament!

The squad recently traveled up Hwy 400 to the beautiful scenery of the Muskokas to play some great hockey, and have a fun weekend bonding with teammates!  Round robin play saw the team go 2-0-1, with some strong defensive play and the offense catching fire outscoring the opposition 10-3!

The first game saw a well matched contest against the Newcastle Stars.  Both teams prevented shots from getting through on net with both goalies making timely saves to end the game in a 0-0 tie. Nolan Crane stood strong in net and a strong effort by the defense helped preserve the tie.

The home team Parry Sound Shamrocks were up next.  Brady Lamers opened the scoring in the first, assisted by Buck Randall.  The score would remain 1-0 until the third when the Shamrocks tied the game.  Shortly after the Express would explode for four unanswered goals to put the game away and grab the 5-1 victory.  Scoring were Maeve Baker unassisted, Lamers from Marin Popovic and Buck, Douglas Cattrysse from Baker and Buck Randall from Lamers and Popovic.

Game three saw the team slated against the East Nipissing Vipers.  Scoring early and often the Express would grab the 5-2 win to put them into the semi-final game.

Semi-final action brought on Essa who came out quickly to take a 2-1 first period lead.  Marin Popovic would grab the first tally assisted by Brady Lamers.  A quick regroup after the period ended saw a refocused Express pour on the pressure and notch 4 goals in the second frame! Tanner Strom from Lamers, Buck unassisted, Lamers from Nathan Muller and Colton Thompson, and Randall from Lamers completed the scoring summary for the period with the lead 5-3.  Marin Popovic would add a late period goal in the third and the final would end in a 6-3 Ingersoll win.

The championship game would be against a strong Essex Ravens team who would go on to beat the Express 5-2.  The team tried hard and fought until the end but it just wasn't meant to happen this game.

Congratulations on a great tournament!

GO EXPRESS!!!
