Carmeuse Lime Ltd Ties Up O.M.H.A. Semi-Final Series at Home
A week ago Carmeuse Lime was in a two-game deficit to the Durham Crusaders in this season’s O.M.H.A Semi-Final Series.  The series is now tied because Carmeuse created and seized their opportunity, winning four and tying two of the six periods this past weekend at the Ingersoll District Memorial Centre.

Saturday night, Tanner Moon, #16, was the first to capitalize on the strong Carmeuse offensive effort, scoring the first goal, unassisted, at 8:39 of the first period.  A little over four minutes later, Durham would tie the score.  It would be the last goal they would put past the Carmeuse net-minder, #30 Ryan Calder.

At 14:01 of the second period, Carmeuse defenseman, #4 Zach Catry required assistance from the training staff after being checked from behind.  The Durham player would receive a ten-minute misconduct penalty for the hit, which also incurs a three-game suspension.  Catry would be escorted off the ice and would not return to the ice until the Sunday at 10:30 AM for game 4.

Throughout the second period, Carmeuse continued to surprise the Crusaders with their ability to create and seize opportunities.  At 8:47, this ability paid a dividend as #2 Jesse Carew, assisted by #17 Christian Johnston, put the go ahead goal behind the Crusader net-minder.  Less than a minute later, there was a disagreement, causing the penalty boxes to fill.  Four players (two from each side) received an extra ten minutes to sit; the call, M20 – Disputing Call of Official, a ten minute misconduct which does not include a game suspension. At 4:52, #20 Devin Freeman, assisted by Johnston put some insurance on the scoreboard.

Between the second and third periods, teams were given a bit of extra time to refocus on their game when the ice resurfacing equipment ran out of propane.  The arena staff had the situation well in control and soon enough the teams were reconvening at centre ice, fifteen minutes was on the clock.

The third period did not lack in intensity as every player focused on playing the game of hockey.  Carmeuse’s #18 Jason Arts, assisted by #19 Dawson Kays and #5 Riley Jayne put a little more distance on the scoreboard at 12:18. Though penalties were few, the game’s intensity remained high.  At 1:46 of the period, Carmeuse’s #9 Ryan Cooper would succumb to this intensity as he received his second M20 penalty of the game.  While there is no suspension for one M20, getting called twice within one game incurs a game suspension, which Cooper served during game 4.  Carmeuse would end the period with more offense as #14 Chris Dimmers, assisted by #11 John Ryan scored the final goal of the game, making the final score 5-1.

On Sunday it was the Durham Crusaders who first registered on the scoreboard at 6:23 of the first period.  The lead would be short-lived as #15 Parker Moon, assisted by Carew evened it up 4:21.  Liking the suggestion, Dimmers buried a solo shot at 3:52.

While each team incurred penalties during the second period, only Carmeuse would register more offense.  Dimmers would take the puck behind the Durham net; with him were three Durham players, but they were no match for the quick hands of Dimmers who put the puck onto the stick of Freeman who quickly fired the puck behind the Durham net-minder.  At 6:02, T. Moon gave his assistance to Arts.  The period would end 4-1.

Carmeuse would be the first to step onto the fresh ice, awaiting the third period, but it would only Carmeuse and the game’s officials.  After some time, the Crusaders made what appeared to be a calculated and extended return to the ice.  The third period could not begin until their coach arrived to the bench.  Despite the delay, Carmeuse was able to remain focused on the remaining fifteen minutes.  That focus was rewarded at 12:20 when Dimmers, assisted by #12 Duncan Chevrier, made the score 5-1.  The lead was reduced when Durham scored at 4:17.  It would the second and final goal allowed by Carmeuse net-minder #30 Ryan Calder.

Carmeuse now prepares game 5, scheduled for 8:45 next Saturday night Whitby, where three fifteen minute periods, a fresh sheet of ice and a new opportunity await them.
