Carmeuse Prepares to Even O.M.H.A. Score with Collingwood
At 8:07 PM Saturday night, the puck dropped to the ice at the Ingersoll District Memorial Centre, commencing the 2014-15 O.M.H.A. Playdown Season for Carmeuse Lime Ltd and the Collingwood Blackhawks.  Less than three minutes into the period, Carmeuse’s #14 Chris Dimmers would leave the game after receiving a five minute penalty for checking from behind.  This penalty also incurs a one-game suspension, which Dimmers will serve when these two teams next meet.   Collingwood would incur the next penalty at 1:12 of the period. These two penalties were the only entries entered onto the gamesheet and, as the period ended at 8:27 PM, the score remained 0-0.

This game was expected to be a tight, well-played, well-skated and well-orchestrated effort and the second period confirmed those expectations.  Defense on both sides of the red line was solid, making it difficult for any offensive assault.  The final line of defense, the goaltenders, was on high alert.  Finally, at 5:48 of the period, on what many thought was a missed icing call, Collingwood would find an opening past Carmeuse net-minder, #30 Ryan Calder.    The score remained unchanged as the teams went to their respective dressing rooms at the end of the period.

Adrenaline-filled anticipation met the players as they stepped onto the freshened ice surface.  Fifteen minutes was on the clock.  Carmeuse had tied the first fifteen minutes and lost the second fifteen.  For the next fifteen they knew they must remain defensively strong while executing a successful push through Collingwood’s defense, at least twice. Collingwood focused on putting some insurance on the board.  Neither team was successful given the limited offensive opportunities afforded; the third period would end as is started, 1-0 in favour of Collingwood.

The Carmeuse head coach, Henry Catry, held a Media Conference earlier today, where he spoke about the team’s long layoff between games.  As always, he was quick and direct.

“First, we as a coaching staff are pleased with the level of play we put forth.  We just couldn’t get a break around the net, but the team proved we can compete with Collingwood.”

As for the layoff, it is unfortunate but the ice times available in the centres dictate as to when we play.  On the other side, the layoff gives us some more practices between games.  We practice twice this week. I don’t feel this layoff will hurt the team’s ability to focus, given the focus the players showed Saturday night, and that was after we hadn’t played in almost a week and a half.

As for Shamrock [League] Playoffs, nothing is setup yet that I have heard of, so it just wait and watch on that front.  There are no exhibition games scheduled, nor will there be, as there is a risk of injury and/or suspension.  We need to concentrate of the O.M.H.A. Playdowns right now.”

Carmeuse Lime Ltd will travel to Collingwood’s Eddie Bush Memorial Arena on Saturday February 7, where they will face-off against the Collingwood Blackhawks at 1:00 PM.

A special thanks to #12 Duncan Chevrier for his impromptu and valiant effort to clean the glass for the media rep and her Nikon.  You helped make our final shoot for the 2014-15 season at the I.D.M.C. a little brighter!  ;-)
