Peewee Express take first two in OMHA Round 2
The Ponting Financial Group Ingersoll Express Peewee Rep team began their second round of OMHA playoffs on Tuesday, February 10 against the Simcoe Warriors.

The first game of the series was hosted by Ingersoll.  Aside from an exhibition game against Ilderton, the Express had been without a game in nearly two weeks, and it showed early in the game as Simcoe put on the pressure early and often, controlling much of the play for the first half of the period.  It was late in the first though when Ingersoll turned things around, and the team took the early lead on a beautiful pass from Parker Hodgson to a wide open Daytn Racicot who took the pass and found the back of the net.  The teams went to the second period at that same score, and it remained 1-0 until the midway point when the ever potent power play unit got a tic-tac-toe play to go, giving the team the 2-0 lead.

The 3rd period started off with much of the same, Ingersoll controlling the play again.  But 5 minutes into the period Simcoe broke up the shut out, beating Ingersoll's Logan White who had been playing a tremendous game.  Again, the team waited until the midway point of the third period to add a goal, this time it was Brennan Rupert with a bar down shot from the high slot to put the team up 3-0.  Simcoe pulled their netminder late in the period, going for the extra attacker to try and close the gap.  But the Ingersoll team from the net out shored up on defence, and were able to withstand the added pressure.  Hodgson added an empty net goal with 11 seconds to go in the game to seal the victory, and took the first of the series 4-2.

The teams then had a rematch the following night in Simcoe.  The game started off much the same as Tuesday night, with Simcoe dominating the early play and having Ingersoll back on their heels.  Again, it was Parker Hodgson who opened things up on the scoreboard with one of his patented breakaway goals, sliding the puck past Simcoe's netminder and putting Ingersoll ahead.  The second period began with Ingersoll up 1-0, but Simcoe potted two quick goals in the first five minutes of the period, and took their first lead of the series.  The Express rose to that challenge though, and just two minutes after Simcoe took the lead Ingersoll tied it back up on another Hodgson breakaway.  Just a minute later Ingersoll took the lead on a beauty shot by call up Gavin Bryant that went over the shoulder of the Simcoe netminder and found the back of the net.  Brennan Rupert added a pair of goals late in the second, one a power play goal, and after two Ingersoll had a commanding 5-2 lead.

Symon Hutcheson potted an early third period goal for Ingersoll, putting the team out front 6-2.  Simcoe wasn't quite ready to throw in the towel though, and added a 3rd goal just a minute later.  But again, Ingersoll switched to a defensive mode to protect the lead, and in a near carbon copy of Tuesday night's third period, held Simcoe off, including more than two minutes of six on five pressure, and when the final buzzer sounded, Ingersoll skated away with the 6-3 victory.

The Peewee Express next travel to Wellesley to take on the Twin Centre Stars in Southern Counties playoff action, before returning home on Tuesday, February 17th to host Simcoe in game three of their OMHA series.  Puck drop is at 7:00 pm.  Come out and support your Peewee Express by wearing black and red, and bring with you your noise makers, vuvuzelas and air horns and lets cheer the boys to victory and on to the next round.
