Time for Game Five
The Ponting Financial Group Ingersoll Express Peewee Express extended the OMHA Peewee Final to five games in their series against the Highland Storm over the weekend of March 21-22.  After traveling to Minden and Haliburton the weekend of March 21-22 where the teams split the series, the group returned to home ice to try and take the series at home in front of a packed house at the "Madhouse on Mutual".

Game 3 started off in front of more fans in attendance than these boys have been in front of all season.  It seemed like the pressure of playing in front of such a large crowd added to the nervousness of the team, as they came out flat in Saturday afternoon's game.  The team through the first two period did a good job of keeping themselves in the game, but were unable to solve the Highland netminder or answer back after Highland scored, and at intermission time after two periods Highland held a 2-0 lead.

Coming out for the third period though, anybody who has watched this team play this season knew how explosive they could be, and that a 2 goal lead was by no means insurmountable.  And indeed, the team hit the ice ready to play.  Quickly things started looking up, and midway through the period they were back in the game at a 2-2 tie, and had constant and continuous pressure on Highland, keeping the team on their heels.  After a flurry in front of the Highland net though late in the period, Highland's top player picked up the puck and tore through the defensive effort of the Express, and put home his breakaway shot, lifting Highland to a 3-2 lead.  The Storm added an empty net goal late in the period to seal the 4-2 victory, and Ingersoll returned to the room and back to the drawing board to get ready for Sunday's match.

Sunday morning's game brought a whole different Express team to the ice.  From the opening puck drop, Ingersoll seemed to dictate the pace of play, and with 2 power play and an even strength goal in the first two periods took a 3-0 lead to the dressing rooms for the intermission.  After the flood, the teams returned to the ice, and Ingersoll continued their pressure, looking to close out the game and make it a do or die finish to end the series.  Highland picked up a pair of goals in the third, but never got closer than 2 goals as Ingersoll added another of their own.  When the final buzzer sounded, Ingersoll had held on for the 4-2 victory, and sent the game back to Highland for the decisive game 5 to be played on Saturday, March 28 in Minden.

The Express team played extremely well to a player, and it was a complete team effort and adherence to Coach Boersma's game plan that led the team to the chance to close the series out in their favour.  To round out the team's Sunday afternoon, Coach Jared Boersma was the recipient of the IDMHA Coach of the Year award in recognition of his efforts with this Peewee team.  Congratulations Jared - well deserved.

The Express next take to the ice on Monday, March 23 when they host the Simcoe Warriors at 8:15 pm in Southern Counties playoff action, looking to claim a spot in the SCMHA Final next weekend as well.
