Peewee Express split Silver Stick Games
The Ponting Financial Group Ingersoll Express Peewee team travelled to Watford Dec 20 & 21 to take part in the Silver Stick Regional tournament qualifying games.  After playing their initial two games, the teams are seeded 1-7 prior to the quarter, semi and finals the weekend of Dec 27 & 28.

The Express started off their weekend facing off against a very strong Ilderton Jets team on Saturday night.  The teams played to a scoreless draw after the first period, and it was evident that these were two well matched teams.  The second period started off with more of the same before Ilderton broke the scoreless tie with a top shelf shot.  But Ingersoll bounced back just 35 seconds later on a nice centering pass from Daytn Racicot to Daniel Martineau who was sneaking in from the point.  Martineau fired it high and just like that the score was knotted back up.  The tie held for another four minutes or so before Ilderton found the back of the net again, going ahead 2-1.  After that Ingersoll continued to pressure Ilderton, but just couldn't find the tying goal, and when the final buzzer sounded, the Express were on the wrong side of the 2-1 score.

Sunday the team returned to Watford, this time to face the Mt. Brydges Cougars in a rematch of their game at the Blenheim Golden Acres Tournament two weekends prior.  Mt. Brydges is another evenly matched team with the Express, and they came out flying.  Ingersoll pressed and pressed and had chances in the Mt. Brydges end, but at the 2 period flood were in a 2-0 hole after goals in each of the first two periods.

Cue the comeback music though.  Three and a half minutes into the third Brennan Rupert scored a nice goal off a shot from the left wing, narrowing the margin to 2-1.  Then five minutes later, Parker Hodgson batted home a Symon Hutcheson rebound to tie things up at 2-2.  The teams continued their back and forth play, with excellent chances to win at both ends of the ice through the remainder of the period, but after regulation time it was still 2-2.  Time for a 20 minute, sudden-death, 3-on-3 overtime.  Ingersoll gained control and had the puck for much of the overtime session, and two minutes in on a nice tic-tac-toe play between the trio of Rupert, Gavin Bryant and Daniel Martineau, Martineau finished with a beauty shot high glove side, putting Ingersoll on the victory side of the one goal score.

The win seeded the team in 5th place, pitting them against the Goderich Sailors on Saturday, Dec 27 at 6:10 pm.
