On Tuesday
Feb. 10th, your Ingersoll Brokerlink Atom Express team travelled to
Tillsonburg to play the Tornadoes in Southern County playoff action. Ingersoll
would roar back after giving up the first goal to their Highway 19 rival. Gavin
Bryant propelled his team to victory as the captain registered a natural hat
trick. Owen Longlade scored two third period goals to secure the win. Carter
Spence went the distance in net for Ingersoll and made several blocker saves
against the pesky Tornado squad. The 5-2 victory by the Brokerlink Boys keeps them
perfect in the Group A Southern County playoff standings.
The first period of this game was played mainly in the neutral zone as both teams struggled to generate any offence. Ingersoll defensemen Seth Hedges, Kaleb Kloepfer, Adam VanDyk, Braden Wright, and birthday boy Benham Martin, were excellent in this game. Brody Nurse, Cohen Alexander and Evan Hopson played a strong two way game for Ingersoll particularly in the third period as the Tornadoes attempted to come back.
Tillsonburg opened the scoring in the second after firing a shot from the corner off an Ingersoll defender. Ingersoll responded to tie the game three minutes later. Alex Schuett took a pass from Wright and dangled around the Tillsonburg defence. Bryant found the rebound and sent a backhander into the open cage. Bryant won the draw on the ensuing faceoff, wheeled into the Tillsonburg zone and ripped a shot to the top corner to secure a 2-1 Ingersoll lead. With only nine seconds remaining in the second period, Schuett and Bryant put on a passing clinic with Bryant finishing off the play to register the hat trick.
Tillsonburg refused to raise the white flag in the third. Three minutes into the final period, Tillsonburg created a turnover in the Ingersoll zone and scored to cut the deficit to 3-2. Spence made a number of great saves in the third to lock up the victory for Ingersoll. With ten minutes to play, Hedges received a pass from Tye House at the point. Hedges sent a rocket shot to the net. Longlade pounced on the rebound and found the back of the net. Less than a minute later, Longlade found another rebound and buried his chance after Bryant drove to the net with the puck. Cohen Belore had several chances in this game as the hard working winger was dangerous every shift. Jeremy Hardeman was on the bench for this game backing up Spence.
