Louie's Greeted by Thunderstorms and Cold Front
Thunderstorms were in the forecast for Louie’s Pizza and Pasta tonight in Caledonia. With just twenty-one seconds remaining in the first period, the Caledonia Thunder would storm the net and make the score 1-0.

The second period started like the first period ended; with more thunderstorms.  This time followed by a cold front, as the referee’s whistle seemed to be blown only to escort Louie’s to the penalty box.  While Louie’s served only one penalty in the first period, they would serve seven times as many in the second period.   The second and third penalties were real puzzlers, when #7 Tyler Arts and #17 Ryan Cooper were both called for slashing at 8:09. There would be five-on-three hockey for two minutes.  It looked as if Louie’s would successfully kill the penalties until Caledonia stormed the net at 6:08; it would be the only goal of the period.

Louie’s net-minder, #30 Ryan Calder, had been kept very busy during the first and second periods.  He had played brilliantly.  The third would be no different.  During one of the worst thunderstorms in the third period, Calder would get some help from his defenseman, #12 Nathan Gould, who scooped the puck from the goal line after Calder had made at least two huge stops on the play. The skies seemed to clear, but the cold front continued for Louie’s.  Caledonia would capitalize and make the score 3-0 at 13:17.

At 3:38 of the third period, Louie’s exited the penalty box for the last time.  Thirty seconds later, Louie’s #6 Eric Savoie would see his opportunity to expertly take the puck end-to-end and then place it precisely into Caledonia’s net.   It was the last goal of the night.

Savoie’s goal ignited Louie’s, who finished the game playing their best hockey of the night, creating some exciting scoring opportunities.

On this night two good and well-matched hockey teams met in Caledonia for the second game of the series.  They will meet again, Saturday night at 8:00 at the Ingersoll District Memorial Arena.  Good tickets are still available.
