Trendsetter Finish for First Place
Just fifty-five seconds into the first period of last Sunday’s playoff game against the visiting Simcoe Warriors, Louie’s Pizza and Pasta were first on the scoreboard as #3 Jacob Branderhorst, assisted by #16 Tanner Moon,  put the puck behind the Simcoe net-minder.  Simcoe would respond at 5:15.  The score would not remain tied long, as Louie’s #7 Tyler Arts lent his offensive service to #15 Tyler Goyette who, at 3:10, made the score 2-1.

With Louie’s line-up missing #2 Colin Wellar-Burgess and #18 Sam Tasker,  affiliated players #3 Jacob Branderhorst and #14 Bram O’Connor found themselves called-up for this Southern Counties Playoff game; each would earn their spot on the game sheet.

Like Branderhorst, O’Connor too showed his offensive savvy, as he scored the first goal of the second period at 13:39; #10 Aaron Lonsbery and #12 Nathan Gould would earn assists.  Less than a minute later, #11 Kyle Rachar would pass the puck to #17 Ryan Cooper who would make the score 4-1.  Simcoe would answer once before the period’s end.  It would be the last Simcoe goal allowed by Louie’s net-minder #30 Ryan Calder.

If imitation is the best form of flattery, then Branderhorst would appear to be a true trendsetter on this night.  Like Branderhorst in the first, Louie’s #8 Brady Shapton would score within the first minute of the third period; earning assists were Moon and Branderhorst.  At 2:12, Cooper, this time with help from Goyette, would score the last goal of the game, his second for the night.

The 6-2 win solidified Louie’s first place finish in the round-robin portion of the Southern Counties playoffs.  Louie’s Pizza and Pasta will now play the fourth place Glanbrook Rangers in the semi-final game Sunday night, 7:00 PM at the Ingersoll District Memorial Centre.  Good seats are still available.  Tickets can be purchased at the door.
