Twas the Week before Playdowns
Craig Robinson, head coach for Louie’s Pizza and Pasta, opted to cancel last Monday’s practice, allowing his team time to rest after their full weekend and Finalist finish at the Regional Silver Stick Tournament in Watford.  It was a decision that would pay a dividend the next night in Glanbrook against the hometown Rangers, where Louie’s invested in another win.

TWAS_1.JPGWhen these two teams last met, October 15, 2013 in Glanbrook, the final score was 4-3 for Louie’s Pizza and Pasta.  On that night, Louie’s #6 Eric Savoie would score two of the goals.  In Tuesday’s 5-4 win, Savoie continued his success against the Rangers by scoring the third goal, unassisted, and assisting on Louie’s second, fourth and fifth goals.

TWAS_4.jpgIn the first period, Louie’s were in a deficit until 5:47, when #11 Kyle Rachar, assisted by #15 Tyler Goyette, cashed in.  At :43 of the period, Savoie would help #17 Ryan Cooper complete another deposit into the Glanbrook net.

Glanbrook would successfully pay a visit to the Louie’s net-minder, #1 Noah Robinson, at 14:30.  The tie was barely posted on the scoreboard when Savoie scored his solo shot at 14:19.  At 6:37, Savoie and Cooper would once again combine their talented efforts, earning Cooper his second goal of the game.  A little over five minutes later, Savoie would assist #8 Brady Shapton in scoring Louie’s last goal of the period and of the game.  With only twenty-four seconds remaining in the period, Glanbrook would make the score 5-3.

During the third period, Louie’s worked to protect their investment as they conservatively looked for new investment opportunities.  In this period, Glanbrook would make of their own opportunity at 8:59, making the score 5-4, which is where it remained as game ending buzzer sounded.

Louie’s would have a day off on Wednesday, but were back on the ice for practice Thursday evening to prepare for their two upcoming home games; Saturday against the Norwich Knighthawks and Sunday against the Caledonia Thunder.

TWAS_2_copy.jpgLast night’s game against the visiting Norwich Knighthawks would start with a scoreless first period.  The game’s first goal would be put on the board at 13:16 of the second period by the Knighthawks.  The lead would be short-lived.  Louie’s #2 Colin Weller-Burgess would assist #6 Eric Savoie in putting Louie’s on the scoreboard at 8:57.  Louie’s assistant captains, #18 Sam Tasker and #8 Brady Shapton, would offer their services to the team’s captain, #15 Tyler Goyette, who would make the score 2-1 at 3:31.  It would be the last goal of the second period.

TWAS_3_copy.jpgJust fifteen seconds into the third period, Goyette and Savoie would assist Weller-Burgess in getting a goal his own.  With the score now 3-1 in favour of Louies, Norwich found themselves on the power-play at 1:36. Knowing this was their last offensive opportunity, Norwich pulled their goalie.  Louie’s net-minder #30 Ryan Calder and his team would successfully deny the Knighthawks’ bid.  With only fourteen seconds left on the clock, Weller-Burgess would put an exclamation mark on the game’s outcome when he shot the puck from the Louie’s blue-line and into the empty Norwich net; the final score 4-1.

Louie’s will be back on the ice tonight at 7:00 PM as they host the Caledonia Thunder for the first game of their O.M.H.A. Playdown series.  Good tickets are still available and can be purchased at the door.
