Express Extinguish Flames in Overtime
The Ingersoll Express Searles Motor Products Novice Rep team travelled to Aylmer on Friday night for their OMHA showdown against the Aylmer Flames. Fresh in the minds of the Express was the previous weeks game where the Flames celebrated at center ice in Ingersoll after scoring at the buzzer to win the game 2-1.
Aylmer jumped out to a 2-0 lead heading into the third period and carried the momentum going into the third frame. The third period was owned by the Express as defensively they shut down the Flames scoring opportunities by taking away their time and space. Early in the period Davin Gray broke away near center ice and fired a shot that found the back of the net to cut the deficit to one. Just over two minutes later Gray tied the game up when he wired a shot top corner. For the remainder of the third period Express goalie Gabe Robinson turned away all the Flames shots to keep the game alive. When the final buzzer sounded the game remained tied and headed into overtime. In overtime both teams had their share of scoring opportunities but it was under the final minute of overtime that captain Josh Clark won a tough battle along the boards and freed up the puck for Gray to go in a slide a backhander past the Aylmer goalie for the 3-2 win.
