Express Drop Tough Loss to Aylmer
The Ingersoll Express Searles Motor Products Novice Rep opened their OMHA Round Robin Playoffs Thursday night in Ingersoll against Aylmer. All season long Aylmer has handled the Express with ease outscoring them 22-6 in three previous meetings. Thursday night the young Express team came out of the gates flying as they attacked the Aylmer net with a lot of scoring opportunites, and took away the Aylmer attackers time and space on the defensive end. Entering the third period the score remained 0-0, but it was Ingersoll's Gavin B (unassisted) who put the Express on the scoreboard as he was able to jam home a goal from a wrap around attempt to give the Express the early 1-0 lead. A minute later Aylmer responded as they tied the game up as they squeaked a shot through the Express defense and the game remained tied 1-1 for most of the remaining period. With 2.8 seconds left and a faceoff deep in the Ingersoll zone, the Express were unable to clear the zone and the puck landed on the stick of the Aylmer defense man who let a strong wrist shot go from the point that managed to cross the goal line before time had expired leaving the Express on the wrong side of a heart breaking 2-1 defeat despite their valiant efforts.
The Express Novice team hit the road for their next OMHA game as they travel to Glanbrook on Sunday for a 4:00pm game.
