Novice Express opened up the ODMHA playoffs against Tillsonburg. The Express opened up a 3-0 lead before
squeaking out a 4-3 victory in overtime.
Alex Foster had a 2 goal night including the overtime winner.
The Searles Motor Products Novice Express opened up the ODMHA playoffs at home on January 21st against a very tough Tillsonburg team. The Express split the season series against Tillsonburg and this game was going to be a hard fought battle. The Searles Motor Products Novice Express opened the scoring at 4:10 of the first period on a goal by Tanner Gray. The goal was assisted by Parker Hodgson and Matt Berzins. After taking the play to Tillsonburg for most of the second, the Searles Motor Products Novice Express were rewarded with a late goal by Riley Ellis at 0:29 of the second period. Riley Ellis, Keegan Clark and Justin Holmes battled hard and used their size to dominate play before Riley rifled a slap shot past the Tillsonburg goalie to open up the 2 -0 lead. The third period was a rough one with both teams taking a total of 6 penalties. The Searles Motor Products Alternate Captain, Alex Foster, scored a beautiful “mesh popping” top shelf goal at 13:15 of the third period to extend the lead to 3-0 before Tillsonburg started to fight back. Tillsonburg pulled out all the stops to claw back 3 goals in the third period sending the game to overtime. The Searles Motor Products Novice Express could have folded in overtime after surrendering the 3 goal lead but they came out fighting. At 9:25 of the overtime, Alex Foster scored his second of the game to seal the victory for the Searles Motor Products Novice Express much to the delight of the hometown crowd. The Express’s next playoff game is January 28th at home against New Hamburg.
