Juvenile Express Split Weekend Games
The Ingersoll Carmeuse Lime Express Juvenile rep team split a pair of weekend games by defeating the Tavistock Titans 4-1 on Saturday night then losing 4-1 to the Woolwich Wildcats on Sunday.

On Saturday night, the Express played host to the Tavistock Titans in Ingersoll’s first game of the Beechey league “A” playoff round robin.  The weekend started out on a very promising note as Parker Hodgson would bat home a loose puck past the Titan’s goalie just 1:13 into the first period for an unassisted goal.  Despite the promising start, the Express would end up taking 14 minutes in penalties in the remainder of the first period.  However some strong penalty killing and great goaltending by James Allison would keep Tavistock off the board.  In the second period, Hodgson would get behind the Titans defence at the Ingersoll blueline and take a great pass from Kyle Rachar form deep in the Ingersoll zone.  Hodgson would use is tremendous speed to break away and score a goal that just trickled past the Tavistock goalie with 8:47 left in the period.  Later in the period, Carter Franklin would win a faceoff and feed Derek Johnston who would just miss on his attempt but the puck ended up back on Franklin’s stick who was left alone at the right faceoff dot and he would find the back of the net to give the Express a 3-0 lead after 2 periods.  Tavistock would score a power play goal midway through the third, but Hodgson would complete his hat trick by scoring on a back hand from the neutral zone into an empty net with 3:48 left in the third after Tavistock had pulled the goalie while on the power play to create a 6 on 4 man advantage.  James Allison was solid in the Ingersoll net all game long.

On Sunday the Express would travel to Elmira to face the Woolwich Wildcats in game 2 of the second round juvenile tier 1 OHMA playdown series.  On an early Ingersoll power play, Derek Johnston was robbed on a point blank opportunity the Wildcats goalie Aidan Eastwood.  Late in the first period, the Wildcats would capitalize on their second power play chance of the game when a loose puck ricocheted to a wide open Wildcats player in the right faceoff circle who fired a shot past Ingersoll goalie Ryan Calder.  Ingersoll would end up taking several penalties in the second period, some of which were retaliatory in nature or in the offensive zone.  Even though some of the penalty calls were questionable, the lack of discipline would end up costing the Express as Woolwich would score their second power play goal of the game with 9:21 left second to take a 2-0 lead in the third.  Woolwich would extend the lead to 3-0 with an even strength goal half way through the third period.  Kyle Rachar would score a power play goal with 1:55 remaining the third.  However Woolwich would score an empty net goal with 1:46 remaining to make the final 4-1.

Next game for the Express is Tuesday March 3 at 8:45 pm in Tavistock.  Ingersoll will host Woolwich in game 3 of their series next Saturday night (March 7) at 8:30 pm where the Express will need to return to the disciplined style of play that they exhibited in game 1 of the series.  The teams will then return to Elmira on Sunday March 8th for game 4 at 4:30 pm.
