The Ingersoll Carmeuse Lime Express split a pair of weekend
games, losing 6-5 to the Hespeler Shamrocks on Saturday and then rebounding to
beat the Beverly Bandits 3-0 on Sunday.
The weekend got off to a sluggish start on Saturday with Hespeler scoring 30 seconds into the game. Ryan Cooper would respond for Ingersoll to tie the game but Hespeler would go on to score three unanswered first period goals. The score could have been worse had it not been for a highlight reel glove save by Express goalie James Allison. Carter Franklin would score early in the second for Ingersoll, however Hespeler would score two more goals to take a 6-2 lead after two periods. Then came a turning point. Assistant coach Rick Arts addressed the team during the second intermission. Whatever Rick had to say certainly inspired the team as they came out and played a strong third period scoring three unanswered goals. Despite some late chances, the Express were unable to score the equalizing goal making the final score 6-5 for Hespeler.
On Sunday a short staffed team would travel to Beverly to take on the Bandits. Due to family commitments for a number of players, the Express played the game with 10 skaters and 2 goalies. This game featured extremely strong penalty killing by the Express which was evidenced by Ingersoll’s first goal as Carter Franklin made a perfect pass to Derek Johnson who went in alone to score Ingersoll’s first goal, a short handed effort with 2:14 left in the first period. Ryan Cooper would take a pass from Brodie Sclater early in the second and bury his shot to make the score 2-0. Hayden Snyder would score after a scramble in front of the Beverly net with 0:48 seconds left in the second period to make the score 3-0. Ingersoll found themselves in a two man disadvantage for almost a full two minutes twice in the game but some stellar penalty killing and some timely saves by goaltender Ryan Calder allowed Ingersoll to escape with a 3-0 victory.
After last weekend games, Ingersoll find themselves in a fist place tie with Woolwich with identical 10 wins, 3 loss and 1 tie records.
The next game for the team is on January 3 when the Express travel to Mooretown to participate in the International Silver Stick tournament. The round robin portion of the schedule is as follows:
