Unifor 3264 Hits Double Digits in win over Port Dover Pirates
The Unifor 3264 Bantam LL team fired 10 goals past the Port Dover team during their road trip against the Pirates. Led by Centerman Liam Carson and winger Cam Dench the team rolled past Port Dover 10 - 7 on Saturday afternoon.

Dench, who recorded four assists in the game, began the offensive on-slaught when he stole the puck in the Pirates end. Dench would try a wrap around that the Pirates goalie stopped but the rebound went right to the stick of winger Brydon Johnson who roofed the puck to give the visitors the lead.

The Pirates would eventually tie the score at 1-1 when they capitalized on a turnover in the Unifor 3264 end. Unifor 3264 would take the lead for good with 4:40 left in the opening period. Carson would win an offensive zone face-off step around the Pirates Center and fire a wrist shot up high off the cross-bar and in. Less than two minutes later Unifor 3264 would add to their lead when Defense-man Alex Barr fired a shot from the point. Carson would tip the shot and it would be tipped again by winger Dylan Russell and into the Pirates net for the 3-1 lead. The pirates would get one back late in the period to see the teams head into the second with Unifor up 3-2.

The visitors would start the second period on a powerplay and in a repeat of the second Unifor goal, Carson would once again win an offensive zone faceoff and fire a wrist shot top shelf over the Pirates goalie glove. Unifor would make the score 5-2 when Johnson would feed Carson who slipped a nice feed through the crease to winger Luke Heather who would bury a one-timer into the bottom corner of the Pirates net. The Pirates would cut the lead to 5-3 but Unifor would again come back and restore the three goal lead as Barr set up Dench. Dench made a nice move to gain the zone and fired a wrist shot. The Port Dover goalie made the initial save but the rebound came out into the slot and a streaking Luke White picked up the puck and put it into the net. The Pirates would again come back and cut the lead to 6-4.

But the duo of Carson and Dench would put the Unifor 3264 side back up by three. At the end of a Unifor penalty Dench would come down the right side and fire a wrist shot. Carson, coming out of the penalty box, joined the play and deposited the rebound for the hat trick. By the end of the second the Pirates would close the gap to 7-6.

In the third Center-man Evan Wade would take a pass from Dench in front of the Pirates net and put a backhand upstairs past the Port Dover goalie, who was under pressure most of the game. Carson would get his fourth of the game on a nice fore-check and set up by Dench and winger Kieghan Osmond. Carson would finish off his seven point game (4 goals and 3 assists) when he won another offensive zone faceoff back to Defense-man Colin Van Dyk. Van Dyk let a shot go from the point that went off the inside knee of a Pirates defender and over the Pirates goalie pad for the tenth goal of the game. The Pirates would add one late to finish off the scoring.

The win puts the Unifor 3264 record in the second half at 6-5-3 for 15 points. Putting them in fourth place four points up on the Burford Coyotes.
