Unifor 3264 Bantam LL#2 - Frank Dymock Tournament
The Unifor 3264 team travelled to Wallaceburg this past weekend to compete in the Frank Dymock Classic. The boys were in the Bantam Pool A division along with Dorchester Dragons, Wallaceburg Lakers and Kent Red. The weekend saw the team play in three very competitive games as they finished with a record of 0-2-1.

Dorchester (4) vs Unifor 3264 (2) - Friday Feb. 17/17 @ 6 pm

The team opened the tournament up Friday evening against the eventual tournament winners the Dorchester Dragons. Both teams spent the early part of the game getting their nerves under control as play was back and forth. Dorchester would eventually sustain the pressure and generate numerous shots but Unifor goalie Dawson Sharpe kept the score tied at 0-0 heading into the second period.

In the second Unifor would capitalize on the great goaltending they got in the first period. Center Liam Carson would open the scoring when he let a snap shot go that found the top shelf.

Sharpe would continue his solid performance as he would be forced to make a breakaway save and a rebound save when he stacked his pads. Dorchester would eventually tie up the game at 1-1. Unifor would go ahead again thanks to Carson as his wrist shot off the faceoff beat the Dragons goalie glove side top shelf.

Dorchester would tie it up again and would later score the eventual game winner when the Dragons forward took a pass in front of the net and out-waited the Unifor Defense and Sharpe and put a back hand shot into the net. Dorchester would get the final goal of the game in the third on a hard slap-shot from the point that found the back of the net. The Ingersoll side would mount some pressure and start to frustrate the Dragons as the Dorchester side started to take unnecessary penalties but Unifor could not capitalize on the man advantages.

Wallaceburg Lakers (1) vs Unifor (1) - Friday Feb. 17/17 @ 10pm.

The teams second game saw the hometown side as the opposition. Unifor would fall behind quickly as the Lakers would open the scoring :28 seconds in on a nice cross crease pass that was easily tipped into the open net. But once again Sharpe would keep his team in the game until they would find their opening. Sharpe made a number of glove saves at key times in the game and eventually Unifor would tie the score in the third when Liam Carson beat the Lakers goalie.

Both teams would look for the eventual game winner but neither one would find it as the game ended tied.

Kent Red (3) vs Unifor (2) - Saturday Feb. 18/17 @ 6pm.

The team found themselves heading into the final round robin game needing at least one point in order to advance.

Carson would open the scoring again for the Unifor team in the first period when he finished his rush with a nice wrist shot beating the Kent goalie blocker side. Kent would tie it up in the first on turnover by Unifor in the neutral zone. Sharpe would keep the game tied going into the second making his biggest save of the period when he made a nice pad save on a tip in front of the net and then saved the Kent rebound as well.

Kent would come out strong in the second and score two goals to go up 3-1 heading into the third period. Unifor would get one back in the third when winger Dylan Russell would let a wrist shot go just inside the Kent blue line that hit the Kent goalie bounced up and over and into the net.

Needing a point to advance, the Ingersoll side would keep the pressure on the Kent team in the final two and a half minutes of the game. It appeared that Unifor had tied the score up with :15 seconds left in the game when winger Brydon Johnson jumped on a loose puck in the slot and buried it into the bottom corner. As one official called it a good goal the second official had his arm raised for a delayed penalty to Kent and waived off the goal when he called the puck hitting a Kent skate possession and enforced the penalty.

It was a tough way to lose but the team managed to have great time together after the game building friendships and having fun.
