Some timely saves and solid defensive play by Unifor 3264 earned goalie Dawson Sharpe his first shut out of the season on Saturday against the Waterford Wildcats.

The team played a good road game as they were on the attack right from the opening faceoff. The games first good opportunity went to Unifor 3264 forward Cam Dench when he took the puck down the left wing of the Waterford zone, went behind the net and tried a wrap around attempt. The puck came loose behind the Wildcat net and Dench centered a pass to forward Dylan Russell. Russell's one timer was stopped by the Wildcat goalie.

The visitors kept the pressure up in the opening period when forward Evan Wade made a nice set up to forward Brydon Johnson. Johnson's was unable to convert on the chance and the teams headed into the second period tied at 0-0.

Both sides generated a couple of opportunities in the second but Sharpe made a couple of nice saves to keep the home side off the score sheet. The best opportunity for the Unifor 3264 side came when forward Liam Carson was sent in to the Wildcats end but a great pad save by the Wildcats goalie kept the game tied.

Carson would eventually open the scoring in the third period when he intercepted a pass at Wildcats blue-line. Carson went in down the right side, made a nice toe drag to beat the Waterford defender and beat the goalie short side.

Carson would get his second of the game when he took a pass from Unifor 3264 defense-man Colin VanDyk in his own end. Carson would go on an end to end rush and made a nice dangle to beat another Waterford defense-man and would fire a back hand past the goalie to give the visitors all the scoring they would need.

Sharpe and his teammates would keep the score sheet clean the rest of the way by keeping the Waterford shots on net from the outside and clearing their zone easily on numerous occasions.

The team is in action again this Monday when they take on the same Waterford Wildcats in the back end of a home and home series.
