Express Bantam Rep Tame Wildcats
The Bantam rep team hosted the Waterford Wildcats Saturday night for their first match up of the season. The 1rst period went to the buzzer with no score but that was not to foreshadow the rest of the game.
At 11:17 the Express moved ahead when Clayton Hammond drove in from the blue line assisted by Alex Foster and Daniel Martineau. The Wildcats struck back at 9:14 to make it 1-1. At 5:34 Justin Holmes put one in assisted by Maxx Shelton and Hammond to briefly take the lead until two minutes later Waterford scored to make it 2 all. At 2:32 the Express went into new territory after the Wildcats moved up on them 3-2 until Parker Hodgson tied it up on the power play assisted by Shelton and Matt Berzins. The 2nd period ended in a 3-3 tie giving both coaches time for a brief conference with their boys.
The 3rd went hard with both teams in it to win it. The Wildcats made the mistake of taking penalties and putting the Express on the power play twice. At 12:05 Hammond got his 2nd of the game assisted by Holmes and Ian Fraser and then at 10:19 Hammond got his hat trick assisted by Dayton Racicot and Fraser. The Wildcats managed to get one more at 5:54 but that would be all she wrote for them thanks to the combined efforts of goalies Carson Rachar and Logan White the score would end up 5-4. Go Express!
