The Glenda Ponsonby Ingersoll/Oxford Realty Ingersoll Express peewee rep team travelled to Simcoe on Championship Sunday to round out quite a season, facing off against recently created rival Plattsville Rage for the 2013-2014 SCMHA Peewee Rep A Division Championships.
The game started off with the two teams tightly checking one another, back and forth with neither team giving any room for sustained pressure or a decent scoring chance. Ingersoll decided to change that early in the second, when just 30 seconds in and on the powerplay Tanner Gray fired a shot at the net that was saved, but Clayton Hammond was able to whack the puck out of midair and into the back of the net for the first, and what would prove to be the winning goal. Just two minutes later Gray decided that it was his turn to find the back of the net, and took of mid-ice a la Bobby Orr, skating through all of Plattsville's defenders and beating the Plattsville netminder, adding a little breathing space and giving Ingersoll the 2-0 lead. The score remained 2-0 through the end of the second period, and it was on to the third and final period, with just 15 minutes separating the team from the championship banner.
The third period started off much the same as the second did, and a minute and ten seconds into the period Parker Hodgson added a third goal to the team's total, on a great second effort play. From that point on it was only a matter of winding down the clock, and ensuring that nobody got hurt from the play of a chippy Plattsville team. But when the final buzzer sounded, Jayden Purdy did his post shutout fist pump, all the players hit the ice and had their equipment yard sale, and it was time to begin the celebration.
