Penalties Take Their Toll on C.E.P.U. Short Bench
Monday night, the Ingersoll Bantam LL C.E.P.U. team dealing with injuries and a suspension took to the ice with 2 lines when they hosted Waterford #2 at the Ingersoll Arena.
In the opening period of the game while killing their first penalty, Brodie Warnock jumped on a clearing pass that went off of a Waterford Defenseman and after making a fine deke move on the goalie tucked the first goal of the game behind the Waterford goaltender for a shorthanded unassisted effort. Waterford responded with 2 goals before the end of the 1st period to pull into a 2-1 lead heading for the 2nd frame.
At the 6:42 mark of the 2nd period Waterford would open up a 2 goal lead before Ingersoll replied with a goal of their own, 11 seconds later. The goal came off the stick of Noah Schonberger when he tapped home a goal line puck following a shot from Jared Campbell. Campbell and Austin George were awarded assists on the goal. With an already short bench Ingersoll C.E.P.U. found themselves in penalty trouble for most of the remainder of the game and while shorthanded gave up a 4th goal only one minute after pulling within a goal of Waterford. With the penalty problems and running out of gas the 2 goal deficit was more than Ingersoll could recover from and thus they suffered only their 2nd regular season loss.
Justin Koch was awarded the teams Player of the Game as he played a solid game in a different position as he took up a spot on the blueline. Ingersoll entered the game with only 2 regular defence.
Ingersoll's next game is next Monday, January 21st at 8:00 PM when they play host to Six Nations at the Ingersoll Arena.
