C.E.P.U. Local 3264 Lead by Warnock in Battle of Ingersoll

Monday night hockey at the Ingersoll Arena featured the hometown matchup of Bantam LL Teams C.E.P.U. Local 3264 and Thamesford Pizza.

After a back and forth start with chances at both ends of the ice, Brodie Warnock opened the scoring for C.E.P.U. on a short handed wrap around effort against Thamesford Pizza goalie Seth Deakin. Assisting on Warnock's goal were Daniel Maloney and Justin Koch.

The game remained 1-0 through the 2nd period and into the 3rd even with a number of penalties being taken by C.E.P.U.  It was not until 7:39 of the 3rd that the penalties would eventually hurt C.E.P.U. when Gage Langille fired a low slapshot from the blueline after he took the draw from Brady Shapton.  That goal on the powerplay would knot the Battle of Ingersoll at 1-1 and turned the momentum in Thamesford’s favour.

Things looked grave for C.E.P.U. as they would take yet another penalty with just less than 4 minutes remaining in the game.  C.E.P.U. needed the win to move closer to securing a playoff spot by finishing in the top 4 teams.  With a man in the box Brodie Warnock would become the hero as he blocked a shot from the defence and would give himself a breakaway that he buried in the Thamesford net as he made a fine deke on Deakin.  With the Thamesford goalie on the bench, giving them a 6 on 4 advantage, Warnock once again blocked a shot and surged forward on the free puck depositing it in the open net for his 3rd shorthanded goal of the game, something that does not happen often.

The Ingersoll C.E.P.U. team had a solid effort from all the players and Josh Loranger earned his 17th victory of the season.

With the win and three games to go in the 2nd half, C.E.P.U. can wrap up a playoff position when they host Simcoe in Ingersoll next Monday night at 8:00 pm before they have a final game against Thamesford Pizza on Tuesday night and finish the regular season on the road in Simcoe on Saturday.
