Defence Leads the Way to Victory
Monday night, the Ingersoll Bantam LL C.E.P.U. team played host to Six Nations. Both teams entered play tonight with equal records of 3-0-1 on the season and the game was expected to be a tough one.
At 4:39 of the opening frame Six Nations took an early lead when Phoenix General banged home a rebound in front of Josh Loranger. Ingersoll would rally from the 1 goal deficit in the 2nd with 2 goals in 3 minutes. The first goal came off an Offensive Zone face-off when Brody Warnock won the face-off back to Josh Holmes who fired a slapshot past a screened Six Nations keeper. A couple of minutes later Johnathan Ager was sent in all alone on a breakaway on a nice feed from Kevin Cox and Holmes. Ager would fire a high wrist shot over the glove of the goalie to give Ingersoll a 2-1 lead.
Just over a minute later Six Nations tied the game on another scramble in front of the net when Ingersoll failed to clear the puck. With 13 seconds left in the 2nd period Ingersoll took the lead for good on a hard slapshot from Daniel Maloney who was allowed to tee it up from the top of the circle with traffic in front. Maloney's goal was assisted by Malcolm Rowe and Warnock notched his 2nd assist of the night. This was the 2nd goal of the night from the defence core that had a solid outing. This proved to be all that was needed as John Loranger stood tall in the Ingersoll net to preserve his unbeaten record while delivering Six Nations their first loss of the season. It was a gritty victory for the squad who improved to 4-0-1 on the season.
Ingersoll's next game is next Saturday, November 10th on the road in Tillsonburg.
