C.E.P.U. Home Opener Runs Team to 2-0

The Ingersoll Bantam LL team sponsored by C.E.P.U. Local 3264 opened their 2012 home season with a 3-2 victory over Waterford#1.

On a night that had plenty of Lightning in the sky outside, there was plenty of Thunder inside the Ingersoll Arena in the way of Physical Play.  In a very spirited, high paced match with the out of town rivals from Waterford, the Ingersoll C.E.P.U. Bantam team showed it’s physical presence with thunderous hits from many members of the team.  It was late in the 3rd period when Zach Catry delivered the most punishing check of the game when a Waterford player tried to gain access to the Ingersoll Zone, but he was denied in a big way.  The punishing hit was as solid and clean as they come bringing a thunderous cheer from many of the onlookers.

Waterford came out of the gates strong scoring the opening goal of the game at the 8:55 mark of the opening frame.  Brody Warnock replied just over minute later at 7:28 when he received a beautiful no look pass from Kevin Cox.  After about 10 minutes of scoreless play from there, Ingersoll found themselves on the defensive and while killing a 4 minute penalty Waterford would once again pull ahead with a powerplay marker at 3:48 of the 2nd period.  While still killing the 2nd half of the 4 minutes, Daniel Maloney made a shorthanded rush that he deposited behind the Waterford netminder on a great individual unassisted effort.

As the Physical play heated up in the 3rd period with the match knotted at 2, Johnathan Ager (Johnny on the Spot) would again find himself in the right place at the right time when he popped home his 2nd goal in as many games, which would be the eventual winner.  The goal was assisted by Warnock and Jared Campbell.  From there it was the superb goaltending of Josh Loranger and the excellent physical play of the defence core of Zach Catry, Kevin Cox, Daniel Maloney and Josh Holmes that would defend the lead to the end of the game.

Ingersoll’s next game is back on the road in Norwich on Sunday, October 28th at 3:00 PM.
