Top Notch Dairy Queen Team in Tillsonbur Tyke Tourny
The first tournament of the season provided an exciting three game series for the team. The first game of the tournament on Saturday morning was played against the hometown Tillsonburg red. In net for Dairy Queen was #6, Ben W, who did everything in his power to keep the puck out of the net. The team was down after the first period, but Alex S came back to score a goal in the second. The boys played a good game, but it was not meant to be as the Tillsonburg Red team proved to have the hometown advantage winning the game.

The second game of the tournament on Saturday afternoon was played against Stoney Creek. The boys were ready for a come back and came blazing off the benches. Stoney Creek scored the first goal of the game but Dairy Queen came back quickly with their first goal scored by Ben B, assisted by Alex S and Bryson G at 5:25. The second goal came from Ben W unassisted. At the end of the first period the boys were looking strong with a score of 2-2 on the scoreboard. In the second period, the boys were chasing the puck and Alex S scored, assisted by Braden W and Nathan E. This was quickly followed up by another goal from Caleb C, assisted by Ethan M. The boys would score two more goals in the second with only minutes to go the first by Alex S assisted by Ben B and the second by Bryson G assisted by Alex S and Ben B. The boys were up 6- 3 going into the third period. Stoney Creek scored two goals in the third but Dairy Queen came back with the final goal scored by Ben B unassisted. In net for Dairy Queen was #13 Matthew D who made some amazing saves and kept the boys in the game. The final score was 7-5 for Ingersoll, a big win for the boys and the chance to move on to a third game. The third game had the Queeners going up against a strong team from Cayuga and after a long day at the rink the team showed their desire to keep competing. With Chase E tending to the nylon nutshell and making some keys stops early in the game, the team had some chances to take a lead. Unfortunately, it wasn’t going to be our night and the team from Cayuga prevailed by the slimmest of margins. The tournament was now over but no one needed to hang their head because everyone worked extremely hard and should be proud of the performance put forth in Tillsonburg. Good job boys and I’m sure I can speak for everyone and say that we are very proud of the effort and the excellent sportsmanship you boys showed. As for the cheering section that follows this crew, it’s nice to be a part of and the positive support is amazing. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!! Written by: Mike Brown
