Ingersoll Brokerlink Express Atoms Win Big in OMHA Final Opener
On Saturday March 21st, your Ingersoll Brokerlink Atom Rep Express hockey team welcomed the Kincardine Kinucks to town for game one of the OMHA Atom B Finals. The Memorial Centre was packed! Former hockey greats from town mingled in the crowd and stories of past glories were reminisced as the Brokerlink Boys prepared for their game against Kincardine. The long journey home for the Kinucks would be haunted by the explosive Ingersoll offensive machine and supreme goaltending following the opening faceoff of this game.

From the initial faceoff, Ingersoll won the draw and raced down the ice to ring a shot off the crossbar. The Brokerlink Boys continued to force the play in the Kincardine zone with excellent puck movement and several shots. The Kincardine goaltender played great in the first period as his team mates were in awe of the precision passing displayed by your Ingersoll Express Atoms.

With six minutes left on the clock, Brody Nurse was body checked into the boards and the efficient Brokerlink power play would go to work. Alex Schuett would fire a shot from the blue line that hit the back of the net. Kaleb Kloepfer and Tye House assisted on the goal. Spence made two great saves with three to play in the period as Ingersoll played shorthanded.

One and a half minutes into the second, Kincardine tied the game with a great shot from a rebound. Adam VanDyk made an excellent defensive play one minute later that prevented a Kincardine breakaway. Cohen Belore gave Ingersoll the lead with ten to play in the period after receiving a splendid pass from Owen Longlade from behind the net. Nurse also collected an assist on the goal. Kincardine responded immediately. The Kinucks ripped a shot off the crossbar with nine on the clock. A minute and a half later, Kincardine scored a breakaway goal that tied the game at two. Just twenty seconds later, Seth Hedges sent a laser from the point to give Ingersoll a 3-2 lead. House and Schuett received assists on the goal. Schuett scored on a wraparound with two left in the frame that increased the Ingersoll lead. Assisting on the goal were House and Gavin Bryant. With only sixteen seconds left in the period, Longlade stole the puck at the red line, beat two defenders and ripped a wrister top shelf that gave Ingersoll a 5-2 lead to end the second.

Five minutes into the third, Bryant scored a great unassisted goal on the wraparound with an excellent individual effort. Less than two minutes later, Bryant blew past the Kinuck defence and dizzied the tender with a few moves before flipping the puck in the net. VanDyk fired a shot from the Kincardine blue line with four to go that gave Ingersoll an 8-2 advantage. Cohen Alexander and Bryant assisted on the goal. Ingersoll went back to the power play with just under four remaining in the game when House was nailed. The Brokerlink Boys continued their attack against a worn down Kincardine squad and would add another goal to the scoreboard. Kloepfer streaked down the ice with just over a minute left and scored unassisted. “Special K” Kloepfer fired a hard, low wrist shot to the far corner, giving Ingersoll a 9-2 lead that would become the final score. Benham Martin played a great game for Ingersoll on defence, and Evan Hopson was dangerous each shift for the offence. Game two was the following day in Kincardine for a 3:30 pm puck drop.
