The Ingersoll Express Butterworth's Tyke Selects had an exhibition game against the St. Thomas Stars Novice AE team on Saturday night at the Madhouse on Mutual.
Ingersoll's Jonah Martire (assisted by Westin Matsumoto and Urijiah Jewkes) opened the scoring with a quick goal that slid five hole on the Stars goalie.  Express starting goalie Riley Vyse kept the Stars off of the scoreboard for most of the period but was beaten on quick wrist shot close in by the Stars forward.  Vyse kept the score tied at 1-1 midway through the second period then was relieved by Christopher Hardeman.
Ingersoll had its strongest period of the game in the second period with the Grind Line of Tanner Belore, Will Johnson and Wyatt Thompson who did a great job with their relentless forecheck.  The Express had few scoring opportunities due to St. Thomas strong defense and lack of energy from the Express team.
Ingersoll's defensive play did a great job limiting the Stars attack but with just under five minutes left, Brandon Plaquet did an exceptional job defensively tying up the Stars player on a breakaway.  The two players collided with Hardeman and the puck managed to find some daylight in the back of the net to give the Stars a late 2-1 lead.  Down by one the Express then gambled and pulled their goalie and the offense was unable to muster up the tying goal on a strong effort.  In the dying seconds the Stars chipped the puck out of their zone and broke the backs of the Express faithful with an empty netter to secure a 3-1 victory.
Next up for the Express is a rematch in Strathroy on Sunday at 10:15am at the Gemini Centre.
