Game #17 - Express win big as hockey takes a hiatus
It was 22 months ago, I wrote my final article on my son's Peewee AE season, as of that night hockey was going to pull the plug on the season due to Covid 19. Fast forward to today, as the kids learned Monday that their season was again going on a hiatus for three weeks due to a surge in cases.

Fortunately, the kids had one more game to look forward to, as we travelled down Hwy 59 to Norwich to meet the Knighthawks. Our squad was extremely short handed, as five regulars were away. Our U15 A/E team had their game cancelled earlier in the day, thus allowing us the luxury of having Tyler Fleming and Owen Clarke called up for this game.

Starting in net, coming off a very relaxing vacation was Tanner Belore, who was not tested very much tonight due to a dominant performance by the visiting Express. The boys peppered the home squad early and often, but credit to the Norwich netminder, he turned away 15 shots in the first, and the period ended scoreless.

In the second, our boys came out hard again and you knew it was just a matter of time before we lit the lamp, and it was Fleming getting a shot off, and Owen Clarke finishing with a backhand that slid past the goalie to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Josh Robles would extend the lead with his 14th of the season with a nice wrister off a feed from Eli North, all started by a great effort by Ryan Wolfe to keep the puck in the offensive zone. Robles wasn't done as he got the puck off the faceoff and went in and undressed the Norwich netminder, only six seconds after his last goal. The Express kept it going as Eli North gave us a 4-0 advantage, assists awarded to Robles and Kian Brown. Jeremy Stiles would score off a broken play after a faceoff and ripped one past an unprepared goalie. Tyler Fleming's hard work all night would pay off as he scored unassisted. Ingersoll would score their 7th and final goal of the period as Max Matheson found the puck squirt back to him on the point, and he calmly kept his shot low, and found a clear path to the back of the Norwich net.

In the final frame, Eli would score a highlight real goal as he broke out and used his lightning speed to blow by the Knighthawks defense tandem and buried the puck five hole for his 9th of the campaign. Norwich would score 2 goals late in the contest, but the game was already in control as the Express left town with an 8-2 victory. We all hope everyone remains healthy and safe, as hopefully we can reconvene, and finish what has been an exciting season thus far for the U15 Rep squad, sponsored by Louie's Pizza and Pasta.

Take care, and I cannot wait to see you all back at the rink. Go Express!!
