Season Opener
Thamesford Pizza U11 AE @ Caledonia Thunder

Ingersoll U11 AE opened up their season last night in Caledonia against the Thunder and it was an exciting game right to the end!  Our kids played hard!  Not only did they have to shake the jitters that opening the season brings, but they had to quickly get comfortable learning to play as a team on an ice surface that was twice the size of our home ice.  The team staff did an incredible job at providing “on the go” coaching to the kids as they climbed both these learning curves.

The first period saw Caledonia go ahead with a two goal lead but Chase cut their lead in half by scoring a goal late in the first.  This gave the team a bit of momentum which led to faster skating, heads up passing and harder shooting.

Both teams were pushing hard in the second period.  Stella made some great saves in the net denying the Thunder on a couple of one-on-one breakaway opportunities they had.  Our kids had their own opportunities in this period but took shots just wide of the net.  Caledonia took a 3-1 lead but our kids played hard and didn’t give up!  With the support of the line, Chase was on fire and scored two back to back goals resulting in a tie game!  If we had been playing in Ingersoll hats would have been flying all over the place!  Congrats on your first hat trick of the season Chase!

The tie game brought a rush of excitement to the kids, but Caledonia stole it when they scored a quick go-ahead goal late in the third.  Feeling the disappointment, our boys gave up another goal a few minutes later resulting in a 5-3 finish.  The kids played hard and I know they will come back with a vengeance when they meet again, next time at home!   Game one of a great season no doubt is in the books!  Way to go kids!
