1st tournament was off to a snowy start
Last weekend, the Butterworth Service Centre Novice Tier 2 team played their 1st full ice games and tournament, travelling to Delhi on even the snowiest of days to show off their stuff.

In an exhibition game with Embro on Thursday evening, the team fought hard and there wasn’t a goal scored on either side until late second period. There was some minor confusion as the “Off-side” rule was called a couple of times on both teams. Great job Refs for delaying each call and encouraging the teams to rectify the situation.  With a 2-1 lead for Embro going into the third period the Butterworth Service Centre Major Novice Team fought hard to tie it up.  Thanks to a bold move by the coaches to pull our goalie (which the kids thought was pretty cool), we tied the game up with 17 seconds to go. Great job players!
On Friday and Saturday, the team was part of the Delhi Hockey Mom’s LL tournament.  Though they were greeted with a tough team (Tillsonburg LL2) for their first game Friday night, and didn’t fare so well, they came back with a vengeance and won their first game on Saturday against Schomberg. Their second game, later that evening, against Tillsonburg LL1 proved to be a bit more of a challenge with the apposing team matching them goal-for-goal. But the Butterworth Service Centre Major Novice Team still fought to keep Tillsonburg from scoring a leading goal and the game ended in a tie.  Unfortunately, based on total goals in the tournament for each team, Tillsonburg moved on to the next round. The Butterworth Service Centre Major Novice team made us all proud with how hard they played and how quickly they picked up on full-ice rules.  Well done Players!
