Pete Ross Memorial Novice Tournament
The Ingersoll Express Novice Tier 1 Team participated in The West Niagara Minor Hockey Tournament in Grimsby over the family day weekend.
The kids were pumped up to get to the hotel and enjoy the time away from school to swim, laugh and play. But before we could get to the fun there was a game to play.

First up was the Kawartha Coyotes. The kids played a well structured game in which they controlled the first period. Josh, Levon, Remy, Rydan, and Kaelan had a great shift passing around the perimeter. It was Rydan who buried his first chance when Nolan takes a hit to make a play and passes it up. 1-0 Express.
Caleb is having a good first game making the extra effort on every shift he's on. He gives Rydan the puck for his second of the game to make it 2-0. Big windmill, knee down celly!
Caleb wants in on the scoring so he wraps in his next chance on net and proceeds with a windmill celly to the delight of the cheering fans.
3-0 Express at the end of 2 periods.
The 3rd periods action is a bit slower. Great defensive plays by Charlotte and Josh. Owen stands tall and gets the victory 3-1.

The second game took place after the team got settled into the hotel and took note of their surroundings and friends room numbers.
We were set to play the Huron Bruce Blizzard. We took the early lead with a first shift goal by Kaelan. The Blizzard took over the rest of the period and were ahead 3-1.
The second period had us battle back to even it up at 3-3 with goals by Nolan and Kaelan.
Unfortunately that's as close as the Express would come as Huron Bruce would start blitzing their defense for more offence and they had 5 unanswered goals in the third. Kaelan would add one more to his day and the game ends 8-4.

Our third and final game of the tourney would take place Saturday evening. This left us with lots of free time to have a fun night and a full day of activities. The result of the long time between games would not translate very well for the group.
We faced off against Cayuga who would be the eventual finalists.
Owen was tested early and often. Chris and Ronan were in the thick of it battling hard with Cayugas offense.
The first period had us down 3-0 after a long deliberation on a buzzer beater.
Aadrian was sprung on a breakaway but was turned a side. Kaelan cut the deficit to 4-1 to shed some hope. He would later then got another tally but not before the Stars got 2 more.
6-2 would be as close as we could get as they finished us off with an 8-2 final.

We would enjoy another nights stay overlooking the Toronto skyline and looked forward to what could be a turning point in our season.
Well done players and coaches it was fun and memorable weekend!
Go Express Go!
