Ingersoll Express Tier 1 Novice Rep vs Caledonia Thunder
Our first official game of Southern Counties play saw us travel to Caledonia to face off against the Thunder. The team was welcomed onto the ice to AC/DC's Thunderstruck! The Express was pumped up thru warm ups and carried the momentum into the game.
Rydan had our first clean chance of the game with a rush attempt up the ice. Their goalie made a routine pad save to stave off an early deficit. Back and forth play resumed until Caledonia shot a high rainbow wrister over the heads of the traffic out front and over the shoulder of Owen, bar down for a 1-0 lead.
Rydan with a good hustle tried to break through the defense but fell victim to a couple well placed hooks.
Into the second period we are playing well holding the blue line and hemming them in. They feel the pressure and ice the puck a couple times. On the offensive face off they win the puck and send a streaking winger in on a breakaway and score with a nice high wrist shot. 2-0 Thunder. Another battle in the corner and Caledonia is assessed another penalty for checking. A nice face off win and a quick back hand is denied. The puck is sent down the ice. Charlotte retrieves it and sends Rydan down the right wing boards. He pulls off his patent skate to stick move and pulls away. He sends a wrist shot on net that beats the goalie for a power play goal. 2-1.
The momentum is in our favor and the team is flying high. Yet again the home team performs a stick check and on the delayed penalty Kohen bangs in a loose puck. Big fist pump celly and we are tied 2-2. We attempt to take the game over when Kaelan back hands a shot over the net. The march to the penalty box continues for the Thunder as they can't keep their sticks off the Express.
The third period starts and Kaelan get his chance to put us ahead. He shoots one past the goalie for us to complete the comeback. 3-2 Express. The team keeps pressing and is awarded when Caleb out hustles the defense and creates a break of his own. A nice high wrist shot and we have our insurance goal. Caledonia turns up the pressure and Levon makes a nice stick check but is awarded a tripping penalty on the play. We turn to Owen to get us out of the jam. He makes the save once with his pads and again with his head. Chris is getting in on the action and makes a couple big blocks. The Thunder pull their goalie for the extra attacker. Charlotte digs in but is assessed a penalty of her own. 6 vs 4 to end the game. The team shuts down their attack and win the game 4-2. Congrats Red, Nice win!
