OMHA Game #2 - OT Needed in Haldimand
The boys headed down the 403 to Caledonia for game 2 of our opening playdown round. After a convincing 7-0 win at home Tuesday, the Express had an opportunity to put a stranglehold on the series, but the Thunder had other ideas.

With Tanner Belore getting the call to backstop the Ingersoll squad, who were decked out in their sharp away red jerseys. The first period was not a typical period for our boys. They had a difficult time gaining any momentum, and just seemed to be going through the motions out on the ice at many times during the period. It was the home squad who would get on the board first after an attempted clearing out of our zone, got turned back quickly, and even though Belore made the initial stop, the rebound ended up on the undefended Thunder forward who calmly slid it past a helpless Belore. The period would end with us down 1-0

Period two, we seemed to start to play a little more Express-like hockey, but credit to the Caledonia netminder who made save after save, not giving much up in the way of rebounds for us to pounce on. It was with about 4 minutes left in the second, when Cole McNeil chipped a puck up to a streaking Ethan Kish, who drew an entourage of Caledonia players chasing him down from the left to the right side of the offensive zone and sent the puck over to Tyler Fleming who deposited a perfect pass behind the goalie to even things up. With 46 seconds left in the period, Alex Stratton fed a streaking Jeremy Stiles who made no mistake and scored to give the Express the first lead of the game 2-1.

Caledonia would tie this contest at two's, only 40 seconds into the final frame, beating Belore blocker side. We would again dominate period three, and had some great puck movement, especially during the two power plays we had, but could not beat the Thunder goaltender, and with that, we needed to go into an extra frame to decide the winner.

It would be Jeremy Stiles who would give the Express the win, taking advantage of a major mishap by the Caledonia defender trying to help his goalie cover the puck, it actually slid by him and Stiles pounced on the loose puck and slid it in the open cage. It was far from pretty, but we escaped with the two points and hold a 4-0 point lead in the series, which continues Sunday morning at the Madhouse on Mutual. Go Express!!
